Focal Bathys Hi-Fi Bluetooth & ANC Headphones: Early Impressions
Bathys is far better in DAC mode, in one very specific circumstance on the iPhone: When listening to Qobuz. It sounds a bit better on Apple Music and Tidal, but a lot better on Qobuz in Hi Rez mode. It is not close.- LionTamer

Woo Audio WA-8
Jack said that nothing is set in stone at this point, but he's thinking ~$1,500. He also said that the sonic benchmark for the amp is the WA6 - which I can confirm is an accurate comparison. Also, I asked if the screws holding down the window would be flush in the final version, since those...- LionTamer

Woo Audio WA-8
I tried this out at the Montreal Audio Show...it is fantastic. Very similar sounding to the WA6SE that I use - and to test that out, I listened at the show through LCD3's to both the 6SE and the 8 using my iPhone as a source. I can confirm that the WA8 powered the LCD3 absolutely flawlessly...- LionTamer

Centrance Hifi-M8 and Hifi-M8 LX (8 versions!) impressions thread
A followup...I'm listening now through my Mac Mini, and it sounds much better than it did from my Macbook Pro - it has as much kick as the iPod direct, and HiRez is sounding better - in fact the whole thing seems a bit smoother than the iPod, so the sound is a slight upgrade over the iPod now...- LionTamer

Centrance Hifi-M8 and Hifi-M8 LX (8 versions!) impressions thread
No, I'm using a Mac...that's what's confusing me! But hopefully I'll get a chance to try it out with my Mac Mini desktop system tomorrow (been too busy today), to determine whether it's a problem with my laptop or with the HiFiM8.- LionTamer

Centrance Hifi-M8 and Hifi-M8 LX (8 versions!) impressions thread
I received my HiFiM8 today, and am finally giving it a listen 7 months after ordering...it was worth the wait! So far, I've tried 2 configurations: 1) USB out of my MacBook Pro, which is SSD equipped, using iTunes via BitPerfect 2) iPod Classic, hooked up the "normal" way. I'm not...- LionTamer

My opinion...I wouldn't go for a WA22, as good as it is. I would go straight for the top and do a WA5LE. That one has the potential to replace both of your amps and be an improvement on both and it won't require a change in your ecosystem to maximize a balanced setup. The other alternative is...- LionTamer

The Centrance HiFi M8 thread
Put in my order last week...am looking forward to hearing using it with my laptop and idevices around the house on my LCD3's, and on the go with my portable cans (which sound depresingly awful compared to LCD3's...which I guess makes sense...). It sounded awesome with LCD's at RMAF - mind you...- LionTamer

Quote: The 6SE is the most powerful Woo amp for low impedance cans like the LCD's. The 22 is just a hair less powerful, to the point where character differences explain the sonic differences more than drive capabilities. But...if you're running it single-ended, then a 22 isn't much better...- LionTamer

Amp recommendations for Audeze LCD-2
That opinion (much better written than mine!) matches exactly my experience with the Conductor. Its good to see that others have noticed it too! Perhaps there are some parts upgraded in the more $$ Conductor vs the Soloist? Perhaps it's just biased better?- LionTamer

Amp recommendations for Audeze LCD-2
Agreed that the Conductor is likely a bit better than the Soloist as an amp, but I have heard pretty significant differences in the past due to cables, power cords, power conditioners etc, so I don't have enough data to conclusively state that I prefer the Conductor to the Soloist. But it would...- LionTamer

That's hard to say. Either the Conductor's amp section is in fact different from the Soloist's, or the interconnect added to the chain significantly detracted from the sound. Generally, a longer signal chain with the same basic hardware doesn't sound as good. It was a pretty clear...- LionTamer

Quote: I haven't heard the Taboo at all, but have heard both the Soloist and Bryston, though in different circumstances. What I did is hear both of them shortly after hearing a Woo WA22. I heard the Soloist and WA22 at RMAF with LCD-3's - and thought that both sounded excellent...- LionTamer

A quick update on the WA6-se that I purchased a few weeks back - the tubes that I ordered from Jack when buying the amp arrived last week. I have to say - 596 + 6GL7 (with Woo adapters) sounds absolutely fantastic with my LCD's, just a stunning improvement over the (already very good) stock...- LionTamer

Quote: Just a quick update...I took your advise and ordered 596 and 6GL7 with adapters. I figure that I can try the Princess at a later date if I want - but now's the time if I want to try the 596. It's nice that I got the amp with the stock tubes first, so when the upgrade tubes...- LionTamer

Thanks for the welcome guys! Dubstep - the tubes running are all stock. The WA22 is running Sylvania 6080's and drivers (cv181's I think) along with the Shuguang rectifier. The WA6SE, which will be mine tomorrow, is running GE power tubes along with tr Shuggy. My plan is to order the Princess...- LionTamer

Hi all, Lots of interesting info in this thread! I'm just back from the Salon Son & Image show in Montreal, and spent a lot of time in the Woo room, choosing an amp to use in my first high-end headphone rig. I had already decided on LCD-3's, so listened at the show to a few amps...- LionTamer

Help a beginner
A few comments here... First off, you should figure out your headphone before you start shopping for an amp. The amplification requirements for an HD650 are very different from those of an HE500 or LCD2. If you go with an HD650, then something like a Woo 6 (non-SE version) would likely...- LionTamer

The Decware TABOO MK 111 Thread
Quote: Is there anything more you can add to the comparison of Woo 6 SE to the Taboo? There aren't many that have had a chance to compare those 2 amps. I will get a chance this coming weekend at SSI to hear the Woo 6 SE and 22 for use with my new LCD 3's, so would appreciate any...- LionTamer

A Visit to Decware
The Taboo Mk III looks like it might be the perfect amp to pair with my new LCD 3's...I'll be giving the Woo amps a listen at Salon Son & Image in 2 weeks, but unfortunately Decware isn't on the list of brands at the show. Given that this amp is designed with their CSP-2 in mind, I'd presume...- LionTamer

Amp recommendations for Audeze LCD-3
Lots of excellent information from the LCD experts - many thanks for that! I'm quite happy with my Shindo/VTL pre and amp combo for my speakers, so have no intention to do anything that alters that recipe. I'm not looking for a new preamp or integrated amp for my "alpha" system - I'm...- LionTamer

Amp recommendations for Audeze LCD-3
Hi all, I just put in an order for my LCD-3's. I heard them at Canjam at RMAF in October, and they've been on my mind ever since. I did the best, longest "sleep on it" job I could do, saved up the funds, and ordered the headphones. This, from a HiFi guy who is purely into speaker...- LionTamer

New My Bloody Valentine Release TONIGHT!!!!!
Incredible guitar tone on this album...I could listen to Only Tomorrow for hours, just soaking in that rich, warm, heavily distorted guitar tone. Just incredible. I wish all recorded electric guitars sounded like this!
