How about you talk with Jack Wu.  See if he can build you an amp with everything you would need: Single ended and balanced inputs and outputs, stax, etc.    A really good amp to drive any can would be excellent in my book.

Meh, the only part of these I find ugly is the piece that connects the cups to the headband.  Blech.

Picked up a pair of Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66s today.  

Everything endless said echoes my sentiments about the HD 555s.   Note that these cans give me the sense that more can be acheived by them, but they're holding their true capabilities back.

I'd say pick up a pair of Grado SR 80s.  They are almost always referred to as the best headphones for rock due to thei foward mids.

I would first look into a WA6.  Jack Wu over there is known for excellent customer service, plus you can easils get upgrades from a basic Woo6 (power supply, etc). However, they are US based.   But if you can wait, look into the Schiit Valhalla.  For $350 USD, it could be an ecxellent amp...

Because the anti-cable side won't accept that, despite science, they DO hear a difference.   And so the debate rages on...
