What does the app do? Is it needed to use the KA11? I have a 15 Pro and would like to get something like this.

I plan on buying the X1 to use as my portable rig. Have an iPod Classic but want to keep it hooked up in my car and take the X1 out with me.   I have a Fiio E11 I use with my iPod from time to time. Will using it with the X1 make a difference or is the X1 fine without the E11?
