Matrix M-Stage amp review: simple, cheap, and excellent.
Its because of the M-stage's 5 Ohm output impedance. It doesn't mean that it can't drive low impedance headphones. It just means that gain might change depending on the load- Riverback

Maverick Audio TubeMagic D1 (DAC/Amp) - Condensed FAQ and Info Thread
Quote: Why not just get a tube amp? If you wanted tube sound, you'd be better off using an actual tube amp then a tube buffer. And yes, I would think there would be double amping and connecting via analog-in would not go through the tube pre-out. I think the analog-in is similar...- Riverback

Maverick Audio TubeMagic D1 (DAC/Amp) - Condensed FAQ and Info Thread
What's your active subwoofer? There are some active subwoofers that you can connect via the D1's Pre-amp outputs using RCA. Like: D1 --- RCA ---> Active sub --- RCA ---> Active 2.0 Speakers- Riverback

Want to try out a tube amp
I'm with Erik. Don't buy cheap tube amps. If you want cheap, you're better off DIYing it. Something like the Crack from bottlehead is easy enough- Riverback

FA 011 and cowon j3?
They'll power it, but I don't believe they'll power it fully. The battery on the J3 can't pull a big enough voltage swing to power high impedance headphones. It'll probably be able to go until 80 ohm, but that's only for sensitive phones.- Riverback

Balancing DAC/Amp volume levels
If possible I think its preferable to use the DAC at its highest volume without distortion and then use the amp's volume pot to control volume. I have my D1 with the Direct button engaged so it bypasses the D1's volume pot (meaning LOUD!) and then just using my M-stage at 0 gain to control...- Riverback

Jeffrey from TamAudio sells them for cheap http://tamaudio.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=39_46&product_id=80 The different opamp versions should sound the same. They're just different packages for different applications Quote:- Riverback

FA 011 and cowon j3?
You never know, the Corda 2Stepdance has enough juice for the DT880's Being hard/easy to drive just doesn't rely on impedance. I've had some 80 ohm phones that run off an ipod/D2 just fine- Riverback

Does amazon ship headphones to Australia?? if not, where can I get it with 'Amazon price"??
I'm with him on this one. Headphonic has good prices for most of its stock. They only hate Senns in Australia because of the distributor's set pricing on them. If you still want to try, I think Amazon UK is still doing free shipping to Australia for anything >25 GBP until the 30th of...- Riverback

Its ok as a direct line-out. Its just the volume pot and the direct button becomes a bit dodgy at times so I just use the volume pot on the speakers- Riverback

I think he means not to use it as a preamp. The volume pot in the D1 isn't the best, Preferably use it with the Direct button engaged Quote:- Riverback

Matrix M-Stage amp review: simple, cheap, and excellent.
A bit interested on the M-stage. Looks like a good replacement for the Mav D1's amp stage Why was coolfungadget banned though? Nvm, I saw the post :p A question about opamp swapping, Is there any dc offset to worry about? or do we have blocking caps to save us from that?- Riverback
