The All New Earsonics SM3 Appreciation, Discussion and Review Thread!

guess thats good then.. was always wondering why people were calling the SM3s treble shy when i found them quite detailed and sometimes a bit too much after extended listening... guess now i know why :-) (at least its not my ears being different from the norm) but the filters included in the RE0...

The All New Earsonics SM3 Appreciation, Discussion and Review Thread!

i checked the mod for the filter and found it intresting enough to try out.... but when i inserted the bobby pin there was no such filter in mine.... I have always found my SM3s foward sounding with extended treble almost on par with RE0s while others commented that the treble was a bit...

The All New Earsonics SM3 Appreciation, Discussion and Review Thread!

Quote: like photofan1986 i only really started to appreciate my SM3s after 3-4 weeks. At first i really prefered my RE-zeros (bought around the same time) but after listening to them for a long while there is something in the presentation of sound (not frequency response more like...

    Safe listening volumes?

Quote: i'm using Studio Six Digital SPL meter works pretty well without calibration (+/- 3dB at factory for mine before calbration with proper spl meter (on +16.4 trim now))

    Safe listening volumes?

just thought that i would add my two cents... i usually do all my IEM listening calibrated at ~80dB SPL using iphone software resulting in ~70dB at eardrum (avg of 2cm depth resulting in ~10dB drop) whereas i find that i need about 85dB ( between 75 and 80dB at ear drum) SPL when using fullsize...

RE-ZERO: Photos & First Thoughts - Now with Review Links!

Quote: I have a custom 47ohm impedence adaptor which when combined with the RE-zeros brings their impedence to RE-0 level (63ohm vs 64ohm) which reduces the hiss (none even at 7x gain) and really enhances their performance when running from my RA1 custom fullsize headphone amp ( amazing...

INTRO to Electrostats -- Placed my first STAX order!!!!! *PICS*

ok.. just got my superfatcat baby stax and... when i first turned it on i was a bit dissappointed as it was uncomparable to my SM3 + pico slim... then i read email from owner stating that components had to warm up for 15min to sound great... as i listened the sound definitely had an improvement...

INTRO to Electrostats -- Placed my first STAX order!!!!! *PICS*

i just bought the SR-001 mk2 (baby stax) with superfatcat mod + Li battery and i'm just waiting for it to arrive :-) heard lots of good things about it even though some consider it entry level stax.... hope i made the right decision, can anyone comment on the system? thanks

RE-ZERO: Photos & First Thoughts - Now with Review Links!

RE-zero does alot of things well, it has amazing clarity and bass response is thicker in comparison to RE0 with the same extended highs but not as sparkly ( a bit less high end energy) which is good as this brings a more balanced sound IMO (abit still more foward sounding). now the SM3 improves...

Quote: lol.. cant u tell (u never really stop learning)... first got the bug when i got my SE530 3yrs (did not really think much of it until i started feeding it great quality source material that it really opened up)  ago and have since been slowly collecting head-fi products... its...

EarSonics SM3 Appreciation, Discussion, & Review Thread - Technically Best Universal? (see first post for reviews and info)

Quote: I do agree with u Kubus, the cost of most portable amps are definitely not justified by the potential SQ increase ( definately not the high end portable amps) but thare may be some exceptions out there and with so many users selling their stuff there are potential deals to be had...

RE-ZERO: Photos & First Thoughts - Now with Review Links!

probably just past 100 hour mark now and i really enjoy the sound sig.. feels like the mids have dropped a bit, bass has tightened/ increased and the treble has increased a few dB which i do very much enjoy (could be head burnin).. kudos to head direct . i find i am swapping between the RE-ZEROs...

EarSonics SM3 Appreciation, Discussion, & Review Thread - Technically Best Universal? (see first post for reviews and info)

hope i dont get put down by anyone... but IMO i think that an amp makes alot of difference to my ears (with the right source and source material). I find that my iphone does produce great sound on my SM3s (at 40% sound is loud but bass is not as controlled as it could be/ no real slam ) but when...

EarSonics SM3 Appreciation, Discussion, & Review Thread - Technically Best Universal? (see first post for reviews and info)

if my RE-zeros are similar to your RE-252's id have to agree that while they manage to portray the mids and highs well, there is certianly no authority in the lows and the drums have no weight to them... while they are enjoying at times they do not touch the sm3 IMO. with the IE8s i find i have...

EarSonics SM3 Appreciation, Discussion, & Review Thread - Technically Best Universal? (see first post for reviews and info)

hey MayaTIlab i've got the same album and the SM3s truly portray the sound more realistically than any of my other phones (IE8, SE530, RE-ZERO). These phones truly are amazing . They manage to paint an image of the orchestra perfectly   as opposed to my other phones which make them sound more...

A sound card that can power a Sennehiser HD 650 ?

If u are after a sound card the xonar ST/STX should be able to drive them properly from their built in headphone amp with high/medium/low impedence matching. The plus to this is the SNR of 124dB which is great if u figure that u want to purchase an amp down the line. I own an ST and have since...

RE-ZERO: Photos & First Thoughts - Now with Review Links!

hey toliman, i reckon u should try out the single flanges which IMO outperform the complys( they muffle the treble as they absorb high frequency energy). with the single flanges u should be able to hear a much extended frequency response at the cost of a bit less bass (not much) resulting in a...

EarSonics SM3 Appreciation, Discussion, & Review Thread - Technically Best Universal? (see first post for reviews and info)

I've had my SM3's for about a month now and i only began to really appreciate these phones about a week ago. When i first got these phones i moved from the IE8s and found their bass lacking, I also have a set of RE0's and thought that the highs on the SM3 were not as extended (was beginning to...

About to invest in some RE0's

To my ears i find that my iphone 3gs is able to drive my RE0's audably at 3/4 volume but i find that the amp sounds strained and the sq is degraded (highs are somewhat muffled and bass does not have a dynamic sound to it). When i start amping with the 3gs as my source, the dynamics of the sound...

RE-ZERO: Photos & First Thoughts - Now with Review Links!

These phones also do punch above their weight class (cost). I own the SE530, IE8 and SM3 and i find that both the RE-Zero and RE-0 sound significantly better (sound quality wise) than the SE530 and IE8. Only the SM3s better them (by a decent margin IMO) although they are more than 3 times more...

RE-ZERO: Photos & First Thoughts - Now with Review Links!

after listening to the RE-Zeros for about a day (had a 24hr burnin the day before and to my ears highs/bass have only just come out as they were a bit recessed before), my initial impressions are that the mids are a bit more prominent and the highs are extended as much as the RE-0s but in a more...

[REVIEW] Head-Direct RE0 - a new contender for the best IEM

i've got a pair or RE0's and i must say that they are amazing for the price (the details presented are amazing) . They even compete with my SM3's SQ wise where the SM3s better them in the mids (midbass) section. To my ears the RE0s have a bass presence that can be felt when amped properly (in...
