9v battery alternative for D4 Mamba

For anyone who's curious, this actually worked pretty well.  I bought the Visual Sound 9v clip adapter for a few bucks, and I had a Danelectro "Zero Hum" wall wart lying around for my guitar pedals.  I fed the 9v clip end into the D4 touching the battery contacts, and I filled the space with...

9v battery alternative for D4 Mamba

Did a quick search and I couldn't find any thread that mentions this.  I want to have 9v power for my D4, but I don't want to run through a new battery every day.  Has anyone tried something like this 9V battery adapter cable (looks like it mimics the contacts of a 9V battery)...

    Headphone shops in HK?

Thanks for the replies.  I am in HK now and it seems to be good timing for this AV show, though I am not sure if I can rearrange my plans to attend.  As for the others, I will check them out also.   I started looking at those old threads but I wasn't sure which shops might no longer be. I...

    Headphone shops in HK?

I'm visiting Hong Kong for a few weeks and I was wondering where I might go to try/buy some full-size cans.  I'm specifically interested in hearing some Audio-Technicas or Denons since I figure they might be more popular in Asia.   Are the prices in HK similar or cheaper than in the US...

    Pack-and-go full-sized can listening rig?

Thanks for the replies.  I am currently trying the rubber band suggestion to bundle my system together (trying to avoid spending more money for now).  It's not pretty, but seems workable.  Just need to get a cheap camera case.   I was considering the SRH840s at one point, but some places...

iBasso D42 "Mamba" with dual dacs! !! Hey Hey! Improved Starting on Page 76 .

Just finished the 2nd half of this thread (whew!).   The clipping issue, does it also apply to non-mac users with itunes?  Most people who mentioned it seem to be running on macs, so wasn't sure.   I hear my PRO 650s having difficulty with the lowest bass regions on some songs (when...

    Pack-and-go full-sized can listening rig?

Wow, lot of suggestions for IEMs.  I guess they really are the best for my scenario.   I never found plain earbuds very comfortable, so I don't know if IEMs will do any better.  But I can't really knock it until I've tried I guess.   Ed 8s...  I wish...  Even the ESW9s would be around my...

    ATH-ESW9A or PRO 900 or HFI-780

Quote: x2.  I'm not sure how strong the HP out of the iphone is, but my pro 650s are not well driven by my 4G ipod.  Sounds much better through my amp on higher gain setting.   Also, if you plan on wearing while walking, ultrasones seem picky about how they are positioned on your...

    Pack-and-go full-sized can listening rig?

Yeah, I understand what you mean.  Probably not the best environment for quality listening.   But with a newborn at home, the train ride is actually my best window for enjoying my headphones  (not that I'm complaining about being a new parent ).  So my new toys may be collecting dust for the...

    Pack-and-go full-sized can listening rig?

I may yet decide to modify my ultrasone case to have specific slots for ipod and amp so that just one cord sticks out, but I think I'll try the cheaper rubber band route first.   Or maybe I'll have to get some phones that sound better straight out of the ipod.

    Pack-and-go full-sized can listening rig?

Music from the laptop would be ideal, but the laptop is from work and I guess they might not be thrilled if I filled it up with music.    That hippocase looks tempting, but quite expensive.  The rubber band sounds like a good idea, though.

    Pack-and-go full-sized can listening rig?

So I recently was infected by Head-Fi and bought myself an ipod, a portable dac/amp, and some headphones.  I have a very long train commute to work, so I figured I might as well get in some quality listening time.  I recently put all the pieces together for a couple trial runs and it turns out...

Songs for showing off headphone amp

While I appreciate your guidance (I am quite a newbie), I just wanted to hear some examples like TheWuss gave above.  I guess specifically I would like to see what the amp does for bass punch and clarity or in cleaning up dynamics and instrument separation (which I guess is not very specific )...

Songs for showing off headphone amp

Quote:   Thanks for the suggestion!  I never noticed that bass line before (I guess back in the day I was paying more attention to the trippy music video).  That was a pretty fun listen and I hope to run into a lot of those "discoveries."   Quote: My music is all in...

Songs for showing off headphone amp

Seeing as how the search function doesn't seem to be working right now, I thought I would start a new thread.  I just got my first headphone amp (D4 Mamba - thanks, kobeclix!) and I've been trying to find songs that really highlight the differences.  My phones are Grado SR80, Denon D1000, Koss...

    ipod refurbs from ecost

It does have a serial number on the back, but the number doesn't match the one in the "About" section if the software.  So I guess they did replace it with one from another unit.   I tested it a bit and it seems to be working fine, so I'm going to assume it's a legitimate unit for now.  I...

    ipod refurbs from ecost

It seems I jumped the gun a bit.   Upon closer inspection, the back of the unit does have the apple logo embossed, but not frosted like my other ipod and so faint that I couldn't see it with the protective plastic wrap around it.  I'm just starting to use it, but everything seems to be in order...

    ipod refurbs from ecost

I just bought a refurbished 4th gen ipod from ecost.com with the intention of going down the imod route (as soon as my bank account recharges ).  I received the unit pretty quickly and when I opened the box, it came with pretty much everything I was expecting.  However, when I turned the ipod...

    Anyone do re-cabling for KSC35s?

My first post, so I'm not sure if this thread belongs here.   I have a pair of KSC35s that have a broken cable (managed to step on it while I was wearing them ) so sound is only coming out of one ear.  First I thought to myself, "what a great idea for my first DIY project."  But then I...
