    DT990 Pro Impressions Thread

If you want a new DAC I'd be tempted to go for the O2 DAC, especially as you already have the O2 amp. Better yet go for the O2 DAC and get a tube amp for the DT 990s ;)

    DT990 Pro Impressions Thread

Ignorance is bliss, correct. But there's something to be said for a decent DAC and amp having said that. As I mentioned my DT 990 Pro sounds worlds different on a laptop with poor onboard DAC than it does from my iPad but especially my home DAC which wasn't even expensive.  Also agreed...

    DT990 Pro Impressions Thread

Here's the thing though, different headphones DO sound vastly different. Comparing my DT 990 Pro to, say, my Koss Porta Pro or better yet my old Sennheiser HD 215 (if I'm not mistaking the model number) the difference really is obvious on first listen and is a night and day experience...

    DT990 Pro Impressions Thread

I disagree, I mean obviously an amplifier amplifies the signal but if that's all it does then how do you explain some amps being warmer than others? Also certain headphones (like the DT 990 Pro) are rated at 250ohms so they are literally made to be amplified. It doesn't just sound louder when...

    DT990 Pro Impressions Thread

Regarding amped vs unamped to me there's a big difference between the two on my 990 Pro headphones. And I'm on a budget so my audio rig in no way has uber god-like equipment, it's very modest but decent enough.  Any way when I plug my headphones in to say my iPad Mini and load up a YouTube...

Same. These headphones are pretty beast!  For the money I would not consider anything else. Especially if you like bass, natural air and clarity. It's a fun listen.

    Expensive headphones vs cheaper headphones+dac+amp?

Your audio is only ever going to be as good as the weakest link in the chain. So if you do buy a $400 headphone of 'double quality' you won't be getting the best out of them if you don't upgrade your DAC or amp to match it.  Now sure it's not going to sound bad, above a certain price point...

    DT990 Pro Impressions Thread

Well I went for the Bravo V2 (I think, it's the one that's square box and totally open n see through) with an aftermarket Sylvania tube and the combo cost me £70 but the sound is amazing.  If you want to spend extra there's the Little Dot tube amps but you will have to import those unless...

    DT990 Pro Impressions Thread

Someone show me a better headphone anywhere near the price range for immerserion gaming and movies it'd have to be something truly special to beat these. Incredible about sums these up!  PS   That includes music too if you like a bit of bass with your clarity, and you can get on with...

It's essentially a fully fledged DT 990 proper at more than half the cost....open backed, plenty of bass and clarity, how can you go wrong ?

    DT990 Pro Impressions Thread

I still have my DT 990 Pro, honestly for the price these are surely among the best headphones you can buy I firmly believe that. Granted a lot comes down to personal preference regarding fit, style and taste obviously - but IMHO these blow away anything anywhere near the price range that I've...

    DT990 Pro Impressions Thread

I think burn in is an absolute fact. When I got my headphones back after a driver replacement they sounded what can only be described as 'cloudy' and NOT the headphones I remembered, gave them a few hours continuous play and the next day they were back to how I always remember them - no...

I agree with this. Either save money or go for it properly. Anything in between with the 990s is a waste IMO.

    DT990 Pro Impressions Thread

In a word, yes. Actually that's a definitive hell yes...    For gaming immersion I honestly don't think you'll find anything better full stop let alone for the price. Same for movies. As these are open backed and good bass and clarity you will feel like you're there like no other.

    DT990 Pro Impressions Thread

These headphones were made for movie lovers and gamers imo. For those purposes it's surely a gargantuan task to top these at the price....If you like some bass and clarity in your music with detailed vocals these are a brilliant option! I've applied an EQ on my music player for these...

Beyerdynamic DT990 PRO vs AKG K-701

Lol I forgot to mention that they're extremely comfy with the fur-like velour ear pads!  Open backed with strong bass. Heaps of clarity.  It's really a spot on headphone and for the money I'd like someone to show me something all around better....

Beyerdynamic DT990 PRO vs AKG K-701

Then you've picked a spot on headphone for you because these sound just like a movie theatre speaker. And they're not nearly as bass heavy as the Koss Porta Pro. But they're bright too and very detailed in the mids so basically you get lots of clarity and the bass depending on the music can...

Beyerdynamic DT990 PRO vs AKG K-701

I find for gaming in general that the Beyer DT 990 Pro that I own is damn near perfect for that, and for movies too they are in my opinion bloody faultless! It's music where these can be a bit harsh and too treble tipped, I've just recently applied slight EQ on the bass and treble frequencies...

Definitely improves with a little bit of time, mine from new sounded rough. But within a few hours they settled down brilliantly and became much clearer and tighter in general and the cloud was gone.

    DT990 Pro Impressions Thread

Regarding the burn in which was mentioned in the previous page, I believe it's a fact. I've personally experienced differing sounds from the same headphone (2 separate pairs) with vastly differing levels of general use (1 hardly used vs 1 used constantly) and there was a distinct difference...

Quick Question Regarding Speakers and Record Player

Quote:   My expectations aren't that great, as long as it sounds clean, balanced and good to me then I'm happy. Besides I don't have any speakers at the moment 100% headphones right now so it'll be nice to have some speakers for my small 'studio' room.

Quick Question Regarding Speakers and Record Player

Quote:   So then what of the loudness war ? As I understand it the CDs are mastered for loudness thus the dynamics are nerfed whereas my understanding of vinyls are they're mastered properly as they're not as mainstream so there's not as much need to impress the casual consumer so you get...

Quick Question Regarding Speakers and Record Player

Thanks guys, I figured spending more on speakers would be the way to go, oh and I'll be using this in near field settings - I'm going for some monitors as well strongly considering the M- Audio BX5 D2's but it's pretty much a straight fight between them the ROKIT RP5 and the Yamaha HS50 at...

Quick Question Regarding Speakers and Record Player

Hey guys, quick question:   Given a smaller budget of say £350 am I better off getting a cheaper record player and using the extra £100 - £150 on better speakers? Or am I better off evening it out and splitting it between a better record player and lesser speakers? Which option out of the...
