The $50 Audiophile-grade home setup.
Nice topic man, really. The law of dimishing returns gets really strong after those two, I know what you mean! It's no a be-all end-all setup, but for the money it's very close.- hannyjuca

5.1 Headphone experience *Foobar configuration for all stereo music files*
Quote: Look at the thread title please. Nobody's talking about speakers, except you. And I think you meant binaural, wich is exaclty what DH try to emulate, a binaural recording from any stereo content. Off course it can't be perfect, since people have different head...- hannyjuca

5.1 Headphone experience *Foobar configuration for all stereo music files*
Well, after years of playing with countless DSPs trying to find the best results, I ended up with a setup as simple as it can get. To me the best Foobar2k DSP chain for headphone listening of stereo music is this: Convert Stereo To 4 Channels; Dolby Headphone (DH2, Amplification 50%...- hannyjuca

5.1 Headphone experience *Foobar configuration for all stereo music files*
Quote: JxK, you should really abx the two options. The original file and a file converted using channel mixer and Dolby headphone, both being replaygained to the same levels. That way you can be sure wich one you find more pleasurable to listen to.- hannyjuca

5.1 Headphone experience *Foobar configuration for all stereo music files*
Well, it looks like I was wrong, I can actually easilly ABX the two files when listening to more carefully. It's not that big of a difference, but it's there.- hannyjuca

5.1 Headphone experience *Foobar configuration for all stereo music files*
When the output levels are the same, the difference is negligible between using this complicated setup or dolby headphone alone, not even close to that water to wine some claimed it to be. Just ABX for yourself. It's a simple test to make, but in case someone can't figure it out all you...- hannyjuca

ABX Reliability
Actually, that's the catch, with properly executed ABX test, you can spot minimum changes on the samples, if the device used for the test has enough detail reproduction to do so.- hannyjuca

ABX Reliability
If there was no swap delay, anyone who could see the differences side by side, would get it right 100% of the time. The long delay just makes this test silly, because it's like listening to a headphone, then rapidly taking it off your ears, and then pluging in the next one to find the...- hannyjuca

Hifiman HM-801 RMAA Tests
Quote: Swanlee, being sarcastic won't help, we're all adults here. This thread has not been based around that frequency response alone, to me it's more about the enormous price difference per poor if any sound improvement HiFiMan brings to the table, comparing to a gapless...- hannyjuca

Hifiman HM-801 RMAA Tests
Taken from the HiFiMan review, written by jude. "He then said something like, "Good, because I want to sell it as a Head-Fi support project, like Grado's HF-1 headphone and Meier Audio's HeadFive and HeadSix headphone amps, with a portion of the proceeds going to Head-Fi." And thus...- hannyjuca

Hifiman HM-801 RMAA Tests
This thread just made me feel Head-Fi is not worth looking anymore, when trying to find truthworthy reviews of audio equipment. Based on all I've read on it, to me it looks like the contributors, moderators, headphoneus supremus, and all of the "more experienced listeners" are the ones who tries...- hannyjuca
