Oh… I’m keeping them and new pads arrived today, actually. My teenager is using them lots, so good excuse to get my own.- dougi

PM-3 upgrade options
Have been happy with my Oppo PM-3 for some time and love the presentation of vocals, been happy with the bass, but lacks some in soundstage and high-end. Listening tendencies varied: rock, pop, jazz, latin, electronica. What would good upgrade options be for closed-back or decently isolating...- dougi

Oppo PM-3 : The Portable Planar - Impressions
Have not tried w balanced, but will as soon I find some solder trrs right angle plugs I like (can’t find an 8” balanced cable for es100->pm-3, so will just have to make my own). Having said that, I’ve found using the es-100 eq with a right-heavy soft V has a more open sound while retaining...- dougi

SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?
And this is why I do not hesitate to make comparisons between quality headphones, even if there is a significant price difference... everyone has their own preference and ears... I have not retained my upper range hearing as well as you, so the mid and upper treble are not as evident in my...- dougi

SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?
Dunno about the 1AM2, but any Best Buy with a Magnolia section should have both available for demo. If you’ve narrowed it down to these two, just take your music and try them out yourself- dougi

SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?
I should note that the pm-3/ha2-se combo was nearly twice as expensive and has no ANC (i.e., fewer features)... the sound quality had damned well better be a step up!- dougi

SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?
I find the xm3s a slight bit more open at the top end, both have very nice mid range, with the pm-3 only fault being very slightly veiled (at least in comparison to open cans), can’t say I notice the same with the xm3, but that may only be due to my focusing too much on the xm3 bass. By default...- dougi

SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?
Have had the xm3s for a few days now and will definitely keep them, as they are the best sounding, highly effective ANC headphones I’ve tried. The Bose compete with ANC, but I find the sound quality lacking in comparison (probably just personal preference). Having said that, I find my oppo pm-3...- dougi

such a thing as a good sounding pda ? help
The fujitsu-siemens loox 720 sounds pretty darn good, and good battery life too (10+ hrs with screen dimmed). to be replaced pretty soon though, as it is not WM5 upgradeable. only available in US from expansys-usa.com, and even then, only with euro adapter... gotta buy a $5 ratshack adapter to...- dougi

Which portable amp to build with EL2008s, EL2001s and AD823 (or others)
are you thinking of the el2009? the quiescent current of the EL2008 is 13 mA... and that is at a supply voltage of +- 18V (drops from there), and can operate as low as +- 5V at 10mA or so: http://www.intersil.com/data/FN/FN7023.pdf#search='el2008%20specifications' the El2009 on the other...- dougi

The LiPo Project
a little late to this discussion... but this place seems to have a selection of protection boards for various size li-ion packs, as well as reasonably priced smart chargers and li-ion, as well as poly li-ion cells and packs. if you were really lazy (and could build a low voltage amp with a...- dougi

Which portable amp to build with EL2008s, EL2001s and AD823 (or others)
anyone? seems there are alot of good feelings about an AD8620/EL2008 combination... would the pimeta boards support this? (of course, the TO-220 EL2008s would require some creativity to mount).- dougi

Which portable amp to build with EL2008s, EL2001s and AD823 (or others)
... gone for so long from these forums that my buffers are now vintage! i have a small stash of EL2008 buffers from an amp i protoboarded a few years ago along with some EL2001s, a few BUF634s and some AD823s... i pulled that apart a year or so ago and have gotten the bug to finally put...- dougi

Building PPL's 2001 Space Oddity/Apheared 42
not sure which topology they were referring to, but i've put together (on breadboard only) the multiloop topology with the 823/2001 (2 in parr. for each channel) and the 823/2008 in the same layout... both sound very nice... i prefer the 2008 for a little extra low end reach (albeit at the...- dougi

Class A Portable Headphone Amp
I think it depends on your definition of 'portable'. No, I'm not talking about the amp itself, but the source... if you are defining portable as an amp that you can take to your brother's house and hook up to his high-end system, then yeah, those high $$ parts MIGHT be useful. If you're talking...- dougi

parallel IC buffer output
i'm in the process of building an opamp/buffer-based amp for portable use, and am trying to understand the finer points of multiloop layout as described by jung & others... i'm using a dual opamp (AD823) with inner loop gain of ~100, and unity gain for global feedback... the opamp drives two...- dougi
