Well, in theory with the iPod being a battery powered device it has a "head start" over a standalone DAC, since much of a good DAC's circuitry is devoted to power supply regulation. I would really like to hear from people who have heard a difference, one way or the other.

Alternatively another comparison is iPod + LOD versus any digital source + DAC. Just how good/bad is the internal DAC in the iPod, especially in the Nano 5G? Looking forward to thoughts on this, thanks.

Hi all, I own an iPod Nano 5G. Anyone seriously evaluate the performance of such a unit (or any other iPod) with LOD compared to a digital dock such as Wadia's plus a good DAC? How much is gained by using a high quality external DAC, over the LOD? Thanks!
