If it is going through the motions and rebooting the WM1A does that mean the Ext. Tuning has actually loaded even with the error, or do I need to track down an actual windows computer to load it properly? Any other way to verify the Ext. Tuning was loaded successfully?

I wouldn't wait. I've had my Classic running Rockbox and a long time now and the newer dev builds have been running great. You'll always have the option of switching to the 'official' when and if that happens.

  I know it was there recently on my classic 7g but just took a look and noticed it was gone.  Are you using a recent dev build? I just tried the fallback image and the option was there.  I don't generally use the database so I'm not sure when that option was removed.

You don't need to hold it that long.  Depending on the theme you are using it may show the playback status in the status bar.  On mine if I press the play/pause button it will show the pause icon at the top and if I hold that button for a couple seconds it will switch to the stop icon.

If you stop the playback (not just pause) it will clear the playlist.  To stop the playback you need to hold the play/pause button.

If you can't get it to boot at all you may still be able to boot into dfu mode http://youtu.be/Y_bIDtBohnE, reload the apple firmware and then install rockbox again.  Unfortunately you'll lose anything on the iPod but I'm sure (I hope) you have it all somewhere else.

Rockbox'd iPod classic -> HeadAmp pico USB DAC/AMP    This combo has been working well for me.  The new HeadAmp pico Power also looks like a nice little amp.
