Well, I was sold and went to purchase a set of AD700, but anywhere with a reasonable price (100 and under shipped) was out of stock... in fact, I didn't see any websites in stock. What's the second choice?- msullivan

What is the difference between the AD700 and the ATH A700 besides the second being closed? Are there any recommendations for (specifically) a circumaural set of closed cans in this price range?- msullivan

And you would say that they're better than the Bose around-ear? Significantly? I only ask because the closest thing to a high-quality set of cans I've ever heard was the Bose around-ear, and I fell in love with them. I was going to buy them for myself for Christmas, but ended up doing...- msullivan

Well, I was specifically talking about the around-ear cans, not the IEM, and chinesekiwi lives in NZ, not I.- msullivan

Well, my budget before this week was $200, but due to some unforeseen expenditures, I'm down to around $100. I listen only to classical music, and I listen for long periods of time, so comfort is a factor. I live in a dorm, but in a single room, so while noise is an issue, open is a possibility...- msullivan

I know that Bose is kind of a maligned brand in the high-fi world, but from what I know, most of its stigma is related to price. How would you all feel about Bose cans if you could get them at a reasonable price? I ask because, as a military dependent, I can get Bose products at a discounted and...- msullivan

I just received notification that my order was shipped to the warehouse-- so at least I'm caught up with you guys. Apparently they had to verify my address. They wouldn't have shipped to the warehouse today if they weren't shipping it, yeah?- msullivan

Noob looking for classical cans
I'm a bass-baritone (mostly pre 18th century repertoire) and I also play harpsichord continuo regularly, so most of the music I listen to is chamber music. I record on an Edirol R-09HR. The issue is mostly money. I really can't afford to spend anything north of the $200 mark.- msullivan

Noob looking for classical cans
@AnalogJ: Thanks for your detailed response. I'd be interested to hear whether, for my situation, the Grados 125i or the Senn HD595 would be better-- I'd even be willing to look at the ATH-AD700, but again, I'd be interested to hear whether they compare to the 125i and the HD595. As someone...- msullivan

That actually sounds like a good pairing-- when I get a bit more money in the bank I can pick up a pair of HD280s-- would you say that these are pretty "up-there" in sound isolation?- msullivan

Noob looking for classical cans
The source will be predominantly my Macbook Pro, and at the moment I don't have the money for an amp on top of buying the cans. I had originally wanted a closed pair because of the dorm setting, but the more I read up the more I only started to care about quality and detail, and I had heard that...- msullivan

Noob looking for classical cans
Hey all, I'm an opera student looking for some studio-type cans. I listen to mostly baroque opera/instrumental music. I was originally looking for closed cans because my dorm is extremely loud, but for the most part I'm looking for the highest quality that I can get for my money. I'm looking to...- msullivan
