    Used K1000 for $600?!

Sorry for the long delay on everything guys! It all happened at the conclusion of a holiday and the beginning of a crazy new school year teaching at a new school.   The K1000s sound great! Specifically out of some of the old vintage amps like the Tandberg TR-1055, known for its warm sound...

    Used K1000 for $600?!

Don't fret, they have my name on them with an exclusive hold. Waiting until I can tune in with my own source and amp to really decide on them. I can nab pictures tomorrow, and I am most likely going to pick them up tomorrow. Then it's just a decision to keep them. I will say, between the...

That's if I don't grab them for myself. I'll let you know if I decide against it! Haha

    Used K1000 for $600?!

I'm going to bring my source (a Beogram RX2) and my Tandberg amp to test them again with a range of jazz, blues, pop, and more. I did find them a little lacking in bass for pop such as the Beatles when I tested them on an old sold state McIntosh setup, but my heart melted when I queued up some...

    Used K1000 for $600?!

That's what my initial thoughts where, what an opportunity. The cable can simply be sealed off with some shrink tape in the meantime, the actual wire isn't exposed or damaged, it's still entirely wrapped in the green insulation sleeve! As for the pads, I've been searching but will probably make...

    Used K1000 for $600?!

Recently I have been (blessed?) with the opportunity to buy the beloved AKG K1000 for $600. The cans are used, with the drivers being in great shape. However, the cable housing on the left phone is cracked open exposing the insolation of the wire (the cable is uncut and perfectly fine, it's just...

The Official Grado 325i Owners Club.

New 325is owner here :) Serial #6683 And they are simply breathtaking. Out of my NAD 7220PE playing the late Johnny Cash's "American IV: The Man Comes Around" is one of the most engaging experiences of all time. My go to eargasm album. If anyone is looking for an album that plays on every...

I've heard mixed reviews about the Phiaton MS300 and MS400. But as always, sound is very subjective. I'm going to give Guitar Center a call for testing the V6 and the M50. I'm not sure if my store stocks the HD25-1, last time I was there I only saw the HD280pro. Still, I always have that hate...

I usually am one giving advice, and now I come back looking for some guidance. I'm going to be spending the next quarter year traveling all over the place, a major portion working as an ambassador in South Korea. With that, I am in need of some new portable head-fi gear. I've always been a fan...

Portable Amp For My Grado cans (and some other low impedance phones)

Quote:   Isn't the A10 more for high impedance phones? Not that it wont work with Grados, but I'm afraid of static and of course bass roll off that usually comes from high impedance amps.    I like the looks, function and price. I can see a inexpensive DAC and some Sennheiser cans...

    cheapest legit place to buy?

Oh and did I mention local hi-fi shops? I've been able to snag some great deals from them by casually mentioning things like "Is the floor model for sale?" or "I'm not sure between the two, I really like this one but it's a little more then I was willing to spend." Often times these will be met...

    cheapest legit place to buy?

Quote: Some Sennheiser cans are sold directly through Amazon.com, others are through various sellers. The importance in buying new from an authorized seller is 1.) Getting a legitiment device and 2.) Is under warrantee from the headphone company. These are just two major issue. I know...

Portable Amp For My Grado cans (and some other low impedance phones)

Quote: I use the open source media streaming server software (accessed via browser and IP) called Subsonic. It's a pretty neat tool that offers a whole lot of options in the type of media streaming and through what means (there are Android, iOS and desktop streaming apps as well). It...

Amazon in great because you get free shipping. However, be sure to check the seller with the headphone company to make sure they are authorized. Some of the Sennheiser cans on their are not sold by authorized dealers. Keep an eye out for coupons and promotions from sites like Onecall.com. I know...

If you are looking for a Grado headphone internationally, and the MS phones (which ship internationally) wont cut it, I'd probably say look toward the used forums here on Head-fi. A lot of people sell lightly used gear here and it's a great place to snag Grados internationally. More so, if you...

Portable Amp For My Grado cans (and some other low impedance phones)

Ahh thanks for clearing that up, this is pretty much exactly what I am looking for. I take it you can use a 16 pin to USB for the DAC on this? If so I think I have a product to begin looking more into.

Portable Amp For My Grado cans (and some other low impedance phones)

Thanks for the suggestions, I like the looks and features of the 3Move, it looks pretty fantastic. The D2+ and D4 are PMP devices if I'm not mistaken. I was looking more at something that could be used with a PMP like an iPod or iPad just out of convenience.

Portable Amp For My Grado cans (and some other low impedance phones)

Hey their folks, I've been searching hard and trying to find the answer. But after several days in the bowls of Head-fi and Head-room I figured I might as well ask. I'm looking for a portable amp (travel friendly might be the better word here) that will suit my low impedance cans. I have a...

Greater Las Vegas Area Meet Interest

Speaking from experience with the SR-80i and SR-325is, you'll noticed a very nice bump in quality, smoothness and clarity. However, be ready for the cans to be some of the brightest you've ever heard. The SR-325is is very much the most polarized can in the Grado line-up, people either love it or...

Quote: Short answer: yes. The MS1 or SR-80i, like all Grado headphones are just 32ohms, which is fine to drive out of an iPod, Zune HD, laptop 3.5mm jack or any other PMP really. They sound great out of a portable, but they do really shine when juiced up by a full amp. You can build...

For your taste, and recommending ones that I have heard, these would be the two I'd say you should go for: Classical: AKG Acoustics K 171 MK II (Street price: $126/Discontinued model replaced with the 271). Save up a few extra pennies and make the jump to the K 171 or 271, both are very...

    Headphone Sightings 2

Roadie for The Ting Tings at the Red Bull SoundClash concert (Ting Tings vs. Cee-Lo Green) was rocking a pair of Sennheiser HD-25-1 II for the sound checks. Yeah, they'd be my go to headphones in that crazy noisy environment pre-show.
