It is a good first time buy. At worst you can use it as usb to optical converter later. Btw the popping noises could be found in some of the earlier drivers on wasapi or aiso, the new ones are fine (also the driver 1.0.3.2 is a good fall back if you ever encounter issues) also check out the...- oggle

Headphones for PC/Iphone use
Take a look at the ATH-AD700's they seem to be a good value, easy to drive headphone. Also look for a bithead in the f/s forums they are usually pretty cheap- oggle
