Places to try headphones in Montreal, Quebec?

You should most definitely check out Audioshop (http://www.audioshop.qc.ca/frContacte.html) on rue De La Montagne, which is right beside the Bell center. They've got a surprising amount of headphones from the likes of Denon, Stax, Beyers, Grado and Senn.   You've also got Italmelodie on...

ATH-M50's for bassy music, or alternatives?

You could always try the Sony XB500. Those things are ridiculously bass heavy. For the price it costs, the sound is decent. Don't expect a neutral sound signature or an accurate one. Nonetheless it's a fun headphone. I use them quite often simply because it has a decent sound quality, a...

M50 owner poll - How long can you wear them?

At first, I could only have them on my head for about an hour or so.   After some extensive use and minor stretching, I got used to them and can wear them for many hours on end (4+ hours).    Of course the ears get quite hot, but it's not that bad.

    AKG k 701 vs Audio-technica ath-M50

If you've never actually tried them, I suggest you do so. You might love one and not the other. But you might as well love both!   With that said, if it's your first pair, just get the m50s. If you hate them, well, not much a "big loss". If you love them so much you wouldn't dare get...

    Wire getting hot on headphones?

Quote: I see what you did there...   As for the wires running hot, it's not supposed to. Actually, I've never ever heard about headphone wires running hot before! It's either a defect in the product (wrong wires, bad cabling) or your friend is doing something really wrong. Like...

dt770/80 vs sony xb700 (very quick)

The DT770/80 getting beaten by the XB700? Why am I getting the impression you are not amping the DT770/80 properly?

Help choosing closed cans for an electronica fan!

HD280 for electronica? Not really a good choice. I mean, sure it has great sound isolation and all, but it lacks a lot in bass. If you still want to go for Sens, check out the HD-25. FWIR, many DJ's use it to mix their tunes and also seems like a perfect match for electronic music.   If...

    REVIEW: B&W (Bowers & Wilkins) P5 Headphones

IMHO, the D2000 would savagely destroy the P5 in terms of sound quality and comfort.   I've auditioned the P5 and I can confidently say that I am greatly disappointed. I mean... the P5 are really sleek looking headphones, it's just a shame that they had to sound the way they did...

Ultrasone HFI 580, HFI 780, Ultrasone DJ1 Pro Vs Audio Technica ATH-M50

In all honesty, I personally would have a hard time choosing.   It's a this point where you should audition the headphones and check which ones are to your liking.   I got the M50s, which are far from being boring headphones and love them. They've got a good amount of punch whenever...

    Closed headphones for DJing

The HD-25 is probably one of the best choice and for good reason too. Bulletproof build, excellent bass impact without drowning your highs (or the mids for that matter) and good isolation, all of what you need for your awesome mix session. It's not supreme comfy (unlike, say... Beyerdynamics...

About to buy ath m50s...bit nervous

Unless you want a very analytical sound. Don't get it. If you want really fun sounding headphones, with great bang for the buck, then buy em' and love em'.

    Help me please! Shure SRH750DJ

Quote: I'm going to have to agree to this.    Just for fun, I tried to plug my M50s directly into my soundcard (cheapo motherboard integrated mind you...) and they absolutely sounded terrible. No bass, highs were way too metallic. Overall, a terrible experience. However, once I...

    Is this headphone genuine?

Personally, I hated the RP-21.   For some bizarre reason, they were muddy, flat and lifeless. Clamping force isn't too bad and the design is weird (walk down a street with em', you'll look like an alien). I haven't tried them for long, but it was enough to tell me they were not to my...

    n00b ATH-M50 Impressions

Being an owner of both the M50 and the Portapros, I can say that they do make quite a difference. Bass goes a lot deeper than the Portapros and highs can seem a bit too bright at first (compared to portapros).   For me, it's a definitive improvement over the Portapros. Mind you, they are...

AT M50 vs beats by dre studio which is better?

Beats Solo vs Beats Studio?   They lacked the... uh... clarity of the Beats Studio. Which is ironic, since the Beats Studio aren't that very clear to begin with.   Beats Solo vs M50?   The Solo do have a ton of bass (overwhelming really), but the quality of the bass isn't on par...

    The definitive upgrade?

Thanks for the heads up. It's a shame that the HD600 don't have the same deep bass as the M50. Nonetheless, I'll still consider that headphone. I am currently eyeing the D2000, but I'll probably try and audition them all before buying. Easier said than done since there are no boutiques or...

    The definitive upgrade?

Hey all. Been lurking for a while trying to find some proper info on a possible upgrade for my older phones. But I'm somewhat undecided on my next purchase. I am currently sporting the M50, which are great headphones, but I'm getting a bit tired of em', sound signature wise and sound...

    Audio-Technica ATH-M50???

The M50 does not require any amping due to their low impedence (32 ohms if I remember), meaning it can be driven pretty easily by most MP3 players and Laptops. However, like most headphones, it does help to have an amp. Even the most wimpiest amplifier can help boost the sound quality of the...

    Audio-Technica ATH-M50???

If you only had the choice between the XB500 or the M50, the Audio-Technica is the better choice. I've had the chance to try both (I actually own the M50) and the difference between them is night and day. The Sony's are comfortable; it's like wearing a pillow between your ears. Though, I...
