Really need to find some new portables...

Well, I stand corrected. However, it's not really relevant to my current inquiry, so I'm not going to give it serious thought.   Back to the main question: MC5 or UM1?

Really need to find some new portables...

Lack of EQ doesn't bother me. Besides, I like being able to surf the net and play a few games on my Zune, something Cowon can't do yet.   In regards to the Turbines (not the Pro version) and the HF5, I guess that leaves it to between the MC5 and the UM1.

    Review Audio Technica ATH-M50

One thing I found that improves the bass on the M50 (at least to my ears) is to replace the stock pleather pads with the velour pads from the DT250. I did it out of necessity as my pleathers failed within a few months of listening, but I personally think they sound a lot better now. Bass at...

Really need to find some new portables...

I'm actually in the process of reading the MC5 thread... I don't like running EQ on my Zune. Although it has a basic preset EQ, all of the various settings are incredibly unnatural sounding to me.   I'm also sitting here listening to my ER-6. The more I think about it the more I realize I...

Really need to find some new portables...

Thanks for the replies so far!   Quote: Those Phonaks look promising, but do you know where I can buy them? I found them on Amazon, but it's from an unknown seller... And as far as my sound preference, the ER-6 was the first IEM I ever had, so I never really compared the sound to...

Really need to find some new portables...

Hey y'all. Haven't posted in a while seeing as for a while I was in audio bliss with my M50s and my ER-6 Isolators. Unfortunately, I think it's time to replace the IEMs, as my last pair of tips is disintegrating, the strain relief is totally destroyed, the shirt clip broke, the yoke to keep the...

    Audio-Technica ATH-M50???

I have also tried the velour pads, but I must say my reaction was the complete opposite of ZeNmAc's. It's hard to describe the change, but to me the difference is only slight in most cases. The bass might be a little over the top now, but usually it's not too bad.

    Suggestions for a Noobie Setup

Well, were you thinking more towards a closed headphone or an open model? You're tastes in rock and metal almost seems to scream Grado, but the other genres might not be to their best advantage on them...

    need help choosing headphones.

Yeah, you will definitely want to purchase closed phones if you're listening that quietly in a noisy environment.

Headphones advice! NO DR DRE BEATS!

I'm surprised nobody's recommended the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 yet! Very underrated phone for rap and the like. Solid amount of bass (great extension, too) and the mids are quite nice as well. If my Zune HD can drive them, I'm sure your Sony can drive them even better.

    Velour/Felt Pads for ATH-M50?

Well, installed the velour pads about half an hour ago. Bass seems to have a bit more presence. Maybe not as much impact as before, but it's hard to tell. Extension seems to have improved a bit. However, comfort is through the roof. They don't move around on my head as much as the pleather...

    Velour/Felt Pads for ATH-M50?

Hmm... I think I might end up swapping to the DT250 pads on my pair. I'll probably need to replace the pads soon anyway, because the oil and sweat from my skin is destroying the pleather. The part that sits on my hair is fine (looks good as new), but it's immediately noticeable which part of the...

What Songs or Albums do you listen to to test your headphones?

Actually, I must say that I've used Ghosts I and The Slip in the past and I must agree that Trent's production is top notch. However, that's pretty much the extent of my NIN experience.

What Songs or Albums do you listen to to test your headphones?

Crack the Skye (the whole album) by Mastodon is one of my main tests. For a modern metal record it is really cleanly produced and tests the full frequency range and has a full range of dynamics. Also, Saxophone Colossus by Sonny Rollins to test the instrumental abilities. To test overall...

RS-1 nicks and other damage on the wood question.

Not really. The only way you're going to get rid of the nick is by sanding the rest of the cup down or by using wood filler. Both of these will probably affect the sound more than that tiny little nick does.

Good, Portable, Drum Headphones (For Commute)

If you search around on eBay, you could snag a pair of ATH-M50 for close to your price range (maybe $5-10 more). They're closed, so they offer a decent level of isolation. I can't hear conservations when I'm listening to my music at quiet levels, and at normal volumes I can only faintly hear...

    What headphones made you cry?

I almost cried the other night with my M50. Can't remember what I was listening to... Also really feeling the emotion on As Daylight Dies with them My ER-6 made me cry the first time I heard "Sleeping Giant" by Mastodon. That riff is just beautiful.

    Bose TriPorts

I had the around-ear model. They didn't used to hurt, but I think my head has grown a bit over the past few years

    Bose TriPorts

Interesting reading through this old thread. I have owned my TriPorts for several years now, and I recently just purchased a pair of ATH-M50 cans to replace them. The sound was decent, as was the isolation (great dorm cans). However, they weren't comfortable for me anymore (main reason I...

Audio Technica ATH-M50 amateur/newb first impressions

More or less the same thoughts I had with mine I had the exact same concert-like experience with the first album I listened to. They actually sounded pretty decent straight out of the box, but they do seem to be tightening up a tad as I use them. Also, I'm surprised you didn't have luck...

There Are Never Full-Size Headphones Outside?

Lots of people at Case Western wear full-size cans while walking to class. However, far more just wear iPod earbuds. I might wear my M50 cans around once it starts getting cold, but I'll see.
