I want an hd558 with more and better bass. Will the he-400 fit the bill?

Yes. If you can handle the extra weight, you won't be disappointed by the sound.

Philips Fidelio X1 and hair wax?

The headband is not replaceable. Your best bet would be to use some scrap material to cover it and replace that when it gets too dirty.

    Non-portable amp like Fiio E17?

So, I like the features of the Fiio E17. DAC, Optical Input, Amp, EQ settings (that part in particular). I'm looking for a desktop amp that does the same thing. I know I can get the E09k and make it a desktop combo, but I'd like other options. Is there anything out there for less than $350?

The Hardest hitting Headphones are.. ( "The EXTREME BASS Club")

Yeah, that's the one semi-useful thread I've found on the subject. I had the HE-400's and the bass was okay, but they were too heavy & uncomfortable for me. Switched to the Fidelio X1's and also pretty good... but I want MORE. But they need to be open because I have to be able to hear my...

So, anyone know of a list of the best OPEN Basshead headphones? I can't seem to find many recommendations.

DT-880 vs HD650 vs ?? Open back bassy headphone challenge.

Yes, I'm seriously considering the X1's. They say they're comfortable, but it also looks like they weigh about the same as the HE-400's. Then if you read about them enough, people say they're lightweight... so I'm not sure. I guess it's worth a try.

DT-880 vs HD650 vs ?? Open back bassy headphone challenge.

So, I've had the HiFiMan HE-400's for about three weeks now and I really love the way they sound. Unfortunately, they give me a headache after a couple hours of use. I bought a cushioned headband and made it much more comfortable than it was originally, but I think the weight is too much for me...

Upgrade from Creek OBH-11 for HiFiMan HE-400

The Creek is connected to the HD audio output from my Asus mobo. Nothing special. Not using virtual surround.

Upgrade from Creek OBH-11 for HiFiMan HE-400

Just got a HiFiMan HE-400 to replace a still perfectly usable 14 year old Sennheiser HD-580. I'd been using the Creek OBH-11 headphone amp for a long time as well.   Two things struck me as odd with the HE-400. Firstly, it's quieter than the HD-580 at the same volume setting. I thought the...

Noob. Want to upgrade from Senn HD580's. More bass, just as comfortable.

I see the DT 770's come in 80ohm and 250ohm... any reason to get one over the other running it off the amp I use (Creek OBH-11)?

Noob. Want to upgrade from Senn HD580's. More bass, just as comfortable.

I've had my Sennheiser HD 580's for years and years now. They're great, but I'm a bass head and I want some more bass. I wear these things all the time, so I need whatever I get to be just as comfortable.   Right now I run them off a Creek OBH-11 amp.   I use them for: 70% gaming, 20%...
