yes its that much better that I have decided to keep my AKG 701s, I never realised that getting a different tube could make that much of a difference; the tonal balance is just right for me now.The tube only cost £7! yes a TS 5998 would be an interesting buy.:darthsmil e:

Cheers they are good phones for mid range but despite their large size, shy on bass.

I have a DV 336 classic with a stock output tube and a sylvania 6sn7 driver tube. I want more tonal richness and bass with a feeling of space beween the instruments, whilst retaining the detail etc. Despite their size, I feel the AKGs are a bit bass light?

Its an older tube but lovely sounding rich in tones, the EH isnt that good cos of the hum. Cant understand why it hums.Thanks

I bought 2 tubes off ebay, a used chrome top 6snp sylvania (sounds excellent, much better than the shugang stock tube) and an electro harmonix 6snp new. The EH hums quite loud, even with the volume at minimum, what causes it? How can I reduce the hum, or is it a poor tube?

Its simply awesome, blows away my MF v2.
