Valab Dac-First Impressions
My two cents: I bought the DAC on the 2nd of April 2009, and it arrived after the Easter holiday (10 days later including the holidays). My order also included a Valab silver digital cable, so my impression is based on the combination of the DAC and the cable. I bought the Rega Apollo last...- planar

phd or md? i'm uncertain
I thought one thing nice about the US education system is that you can do a PHD-MD join degree, which really is the best solution (technically speaking) to your uncertainties. However, if you ONLY interested in neurobiology or anything neuron-related, I think phd is the one to go for, and here...- planar

When I look at that Shrek Edition ATH-L3000, I would always wonder why they chosen green. It that's black, that will get far more approval.- planar

Reviews of ATH NEW HEADPHONE L3000(PIC)wood earclip, titanium metal earplug
From my understanding: ATH-W2002 has Japanese style of hifi sound: Warm, excellent mid range. Ever notice how everyone who have had experience with ATH-W2002, were mentioning about the "midrange coloration"? That is exactly what Japanese hifi sound sounds like. Then, we have the...- planar

Meta42 not much differrence from my headphone out?
From my experience, low impedence cans do show less difference when amplified. The difference is still there, but you need to "listening to" them, there are not too many "in your face" kind of difference. But this does not mean you do not need a good amp to amplify signals. In fact, low...- planar

Are there any nice looking small CD Players?
DCD-201SA uses Denon's 20bit lambda S.L.C., which claims to have great linerity. Besides, I think the power supple of DCD-201SA is better than the one in DCD-F101. DCD-F101 uses conventional 24bit 96kHz DAC. Don't get confused by the its 24bit language depth. It doesn't automatically mean...- planar

New Audio Technica Headamp
It looks like there is an "auto-impendance" switch. Now, that is clever. However, like other Japanese manufactures. There is "bass" and "treble" controls. Something that most people won't use but most Japanese manufacture would place inside their products. Hope there is a "direct" botton.- planar

Answer me this about DVD-Audio / SACD
Yes, we can hear the difference now between redbook (16bit/44.1Hz) and either of the new formats. My point is to get the theoritical maximum resolution out of new formats require very very transparent analogue components. So we still can hear the difference, but we may not be able to hear...- planar

Answer me this about DVD-Audio / SACD
The problem with those high resolution format is: they need an extremely quiet power supply. Until now, the highest "output" resolution of redbook standard is achieved by Wadia - 14bits. Tom Evans and 47 Lab both agree that there are no analogue components that can "fully" handle high...- planar

external dac on an audigy?
An external DAC will certianly improve the sound. But the problem is: 1. The jitter created by your computer. Will this problem beyond the re-clock capability of your external CDP? 2. Which external DAC are you going to get? An Accuphase DAC will of course improve the sound, but the point...- planar

Should I buy a new CD-Player, or add a DAC?
I'll go for a new CDP. Becuse there is no tube DAC in your preferred price range that sounds good. You've got a tube amp and you still want a tuby sounding CDP ? You must like tube very much .. So here are my thoughts: 1. To balance the tube sound of your amp - you need a netural, dry...- planar

A Headroom In Every Room
The reason of coloration of More Power upgrade is due to the cable connection between More Power power module and Little itself. I've tried it in my friend's setup. I would not call it coloration.
