essence stx - opa2107's I/V, LME49720HA buffer. is this good match for buffer?
so, ive got an essence stx with opa2107's in I/V, and a 49720HA in buffer currently. i'm wondering from an electronics standpoint mostly, is this a good combo? ive been listening for awhile and it sounds pretty good mostly, but i'm wondering what other buffer combinations you guys/gals have...- dlb0089

going back myself and looking at the response charts, i think the denons would probably be superior for a multiple use situation like yours that includes movie watching too. if you compare the bass response of the denons to the sennheisers, you'll notice that the denons are rod straight down to...- dlb0089

headphones would be perfectly fine for all your uses. movies would probably be the worst application, but thats only if you're comparing the headphones to a 5.1 surround setup. but since you're just comparing stereo speakers to stereo headphones i think the headphones would still be just as well...- dlb0089

ive always wanted to try out a k701. i just havent had the $$$ or a headphone shop around to try them in btw, if im not mistaked, i think the HD595 is a good couple steps down the ladder in sound quality from the HD600/HD650. main difference between 600 and 650 being the 600 is more of a...- dlb0089

however, thats just another reason to go with headphones. pads are an extra expense to fix room acoustics and vibration and such...if a $350 pair of speakers will put a smile on your face, a $350 pair of headphones will induce maniacal laughter and nirvana, lol. material costs are less, so more...- dlb0089

originally i bought stands from audioengine but i really wasnt satisfied with them. they still left too much vibration in the desk. which in turn muddied up the bass from the resonating frequencies. after a few weeks of that i went out and got a set of Auralex Speakerdudes. and they work GREAT...- dlb0089

not a bad deal there! you could actually put the money for speakers + sub into headphones instead. dollar for dollar, the money you put into headphones will buy you much higher quality sound than you could get for the same money put into speakers. speakers cost more to build just because they...- dlb0089

the dolby headphone feature is something thats nice to try for the first couple listens, but in the end i found that it muddied up the sound in an unnatural way too bad to continue with it. its basically just a big echo effect that i preferred to keep off. the a5's would make pretty good home...- dlb0089

also, your choice on getting the essence stx is highly dependant on the quality of headphones you're looking to use. if they are only ok quality to begin with, you might would be better off going another route. if your headphones arent sensitive to needing good amplification then you might be...- dlb0089

if you plan on getting a sub anyway i'd go for the a2's as opposed to the a5's. unless you're in a fairly large open space, with the a5's at a pretty good distance i think they've got a little bit too much in reserve. in my small space with the a5's fairly close, i get plenty of volume with them...- dlb0089

the biggest hit in FPS you're going to see (from a sound card) is when using onboard sound. once you leave onboard you may gain 2-4 FPS, but after that, performance differences between cards are negligible. as far as EAX goes, im not really sure. i'm not much of a gamer (anymore). i believe...- dlb0089

please help me to start equlizing...
with a headphone as nice as the hd650, i wouldnt touch an eq. look around for a warmer amp (or possibly it could be another piece of equipment in the line of signal) more suited to the sound sig you're looking for. then sell your old one! every time i play around with new equipment, op amps...- dlb0089

i personally own the audioengine a5's. i have them connected to a ASUS Essence STX sound card. this card is one of the best computer sound cards out there...GREAT sound! it has a built in pretty good quality headphone amplifier (one of the best for the price). you can plug both headphones and...- dlb0089

Xonar Essence STX: Sneak Peek!
@abelincoln its probly fluctuating current from your psu. i would change it out for something with a little more reputable brand. The Opamp thread
anybody here have an essence stx sound card? i was wondering what op amp configurations u guys like. i have been using stock LM4562NA buffer, as well as LM4562NA's in I/V until today i put my stock 2114D's back in due to a aggravating lack of bass with the LM4562NA's/ so i guess what i'm looking...- dlb0089

essence stx/ audioengine a5's - op amp reccomendations
ok well ive put the stock 2114D's back in I/V and now i have my wonderful punchy bass back in the a5's! i am however missing that 15-20 foot soundstage extension behind the speakers that i liked about the LM4562NA's (almost like the band and the stage were right there) as well as the crystal...- dlb0089

essence stx/ audioengine a5's - op amp reccomendations
yeah, the stock config was pretty good with the a5's. the LM4562NA's in IV added alot to the d2000's though. i've really enjoyed their additional soundstage width and clarity. i think i'll try the stock setup again and take another critcal listen though suggestions still welcome! i want to...- dlb0089

essence stx/ audioengine a5's - op amp reccomendations
hey all! i'm looking to make another change with my essence stx. right now i'm using 3 LM4562NA's, and i really love the soundstage through my denon d2000 phones, but there is a distinct...aggravating lack of bass through my audioengine a5's especially. should i think about changing just the...- dlb0089

LME49722 sounds promising. anything better than the 4562 has definitely got to be good! Do adapters (assuming they have room on the card) introduce any noticeable distortion or any other noticeable biproducts of extra connections in the line or are they fairly good quality components? @ leeperry the LM4562's left the same impression on my phones as well. other than that when i first listened to them I was astounded at their smoothness/soundstaging! they even give my audioengine a5's a bit of extra soundstaging/width that seems to complement the speakers very well! if you...- dlb0089
