i was going to get the essence stx too when i ordered my ath-ad700s. it was between that and the auzentech forte, which was on sale on ncix for $110 (and still is on this weeks sale).. i went with the forte, as it was around $80 cheaper, and im just getting into the whole world of higher end...

bought the forte... and some 500gb external hard drive i saw on redflagdeals for $45 (!!!).. and a nice cheap card reader.. came out to like $178 total... the forte gave it free shipping.. nice thanks for the reply kursah. so basically plugging into the i/o panel would be the same as...

edit: i did some more research.. and it seems its main competitor in this range is the xonar essence... which seems to be better for music, and the forte better for games. are these two basically the best in this range? and it just basically comes down to which i would like more - games or...

usually i dont forget to say what im going to be using the thing im asking bout for... my bad! anyways, i play a few games, including counter-strike, meaning detecting where things are coming from would be a big pro. also, i listen to music almost whenever im on the pc, mostly rock /...

lol ill probably stick with onboard for a month or so until i have a soundcard picked out.. or maybe ill just buy one sooner. we'll see. also, "5 hears of head-fi" was that a typo, or is it supposed to be like that as a playoff of 'years'

haha so ad-700s it is! so now its about a soundcard / amp. can you guys recommend me some good sound cards (but not too high in price) should i be good with just the headset and onboard for a little though? or will the soundcard make a BIG difference, meaning i should buy it asap...

thanks for the tip. i heard people saying how theyre open could be a problem, but i shouldve said n my op that wont matter as im downstairs in a somewhat smaller room and i keep the door shut. do you suggest the ad-700s over the hd 555s? the only thing that seems better about the latter ones...
