I was a big fan of mine, until I slept with them inserted and cracked the housing at the connector.  I think their sound signature is great.  And, surprisingly, I found them very comfortable and easy to insert.

The M9 sounds very harsh and sibilant to me, while the m6 is still a bit sibiliant but greatly improved.  I did have a bit of trouble fitting the m6 to my ears.  The memory wire isn't stiff enough so it's hard to shape them correctly.

If the imbalance is not that great, I wouldn't doubt that it's just your ears. I hear slightly more / different sounds in my left ear, even with custom monitors. As has already been suggested, try swapping the left and right. If the imbalance doesn't change per each ear, then it's definitely you.
