Sansa Clip Zip + Denon AHD600 amp frusterations (in a good way)

I have a little Dot I+ with Mullard tubes and a different op amp; I LOVE the way it sounds with most of my headphones. The problem is - it doesn't sound as good as just the straight output of my Zip Clip into the ahd600 phones. These phones are so efficient they respond incredibly well to the...

Is headphone "break-in" an actual phenomenon?

Take a piece of mylar and bend it back and forth a billion times; it should end up slightly more flexible. Now take your brand new earpads and squish them to your sweaty ears  for a few hours; they will squish into position, and probably end up a few millimeters closer to your ear. Now run some...

little dot I+ -> Schitt asgard: what can I expect?

Hello - I have a Little Dot I+ with some Denon D7000. I'm thinking about getting the Schitt Asgard amp, to see what SS is all about. What kind of sound differences can I expect?

Anyone have or able to measure the cup diameter of Denon's quick?

I got a 2000 cup sitting right here. The inner diameter of the widest part of the air chamber is 3.5". The outer diameter is 3 5/8". The cup actually gets wider than this, though. It has a lip on it which appears to trap leaking sound; this belt area is about 4"

    Non-audiophile looking for headphone advice

The V6s are a safe bet. Light, tough, good bass and comfy. The denon 1001/ Creative Aurvana Live! may have a little better midrange clarity, a little better "punch", but they are very close. The Senn 280s isolate extremely well, but sound flat and crappy for at least 400 hours; then they start...

    Denon AH D2000 Headphones Discontinued?

I just called Denon - guy said he hadn't heard that... all he knows is if its on the website they are not discontinued, and they are still on the website. But Magnolia was very clear.

    Denon AH D2000 Headphones Discontinued?

I have confirmed with Magnolia that the ahd2000, 5000, and 7000 are being discontinued from Denon. Sad news for sure.

    Help me Denon d1001 owners

The denon 1001 / Creative Aurvana Live! are awesome little headphones. I actually prefer them to the V6 and hfi780. They are very light and isolate as well as anything else. Extremely comfortable - I wear mine at work for hours every day. They use the baby-brother driver of the Denon 2000, 5000...

Bass on the HFI-780 just a wide spread rumor or what?

You MUST break in the hfi780s!!! When they are brand spanking new they sound pretty good, but crunchy, massively fatiguing (dangerously so). After about 4 hours the sound changes enormously - the bass basically goes away and the mids get muddy. For the next 170 hours (no I'm not kidding) they...

    Beyer Earpads

Me too. Sent several emails. I don't mind having to wait for a product, but not answering a simple email is the sign of a bozo in my book.

    Sub-$250 Closed Headphone Recommendations?

I'll give you a quick rundown on all the closed phones I've been using at work the last couple years (this is an expensive hobby!): Ultrasone hfi-700 - used them for a couple years, really liked the sound (speaker quality), but eventually wanted more midrange clarity and better comfort...

Review - Shure SRH 840 versus the Ultrasone HFI 780: My Journey.

What a bunch of horse****; at least you got most of your handle right. The reason people "quietly sell their 780s" is because THIS IS AN AUDIOPHILE FORUM AND PEOPLE LIKE TO TRY DIFFERENT STUFF. Also most people do so "quietly" because they don't feel the need to pound their chest and use...

    my ahd2000 died today

First of all - I am not making assumptions. I spent about an hour on the phone with 8 different DENON reps, so I could avoid sending them my headphone and $55. Second - I don't expect DENON to warranty these phones. They were "tampered" with. I told them this. I knew I would void my warranty...

    my ahd2000 died today

Ok, I just got off the phone. Turns out I actually bought them from Amazon, and have the receipt. They aren't covered by warranty because I changed out the cable to a Jena Labs. I would've had 1 month left on warranty if I kept them stock. Denon parts does not carry the drivers. They want you...

    my ahd2000 died today

They are 10 months old. I didn't drop them, I didn't listen to music too loud - I took them off to talk to somebody, put them back on and the right ear was dead. I took them apart and tested the driver - the coil is dead. What do I do now? I think I bought them from a vendor off Ebay. Does...

    HFI-780 vs PRO 750

The hfi-780s have a "U" EQ sound... they amplify all the fun stuff, and will be more efficient and more forgiving with your sound card. Trance is fantastic with the 780s. The pro650/750/900 are also very nice headphones, extremely well made but have a different sound signature from the hfi...

Would really appreciate some help with my Proline 650s

Hello - I've had some Proline 650s sitting apart in a box, waiting for a cable replacement... long story short - I don't know how to position the aluminum disc in the plastic cup. I thought I did, but it sounds VERY weird now. So anyone who has them can you please pop the RIGHT earpad off...

Why do people recable cheap headphones?

I recable everything I can find, sometimes many times over. Different wire acts a bit like an EQ in areas... some cable enhances bass at the expense of midrange, and vice-versa. But don't listen to me - try it yourself so you're not parroting uneducated internet opinion! I have a set of...

Did anyone else have this HFI700 issue...

Yes, happened to mine. It was simply a broken wire at the diode board. Pull the earpad off, take out a couple screws and see for yourself. Mine was an easy fix. I believe Ultrasone will charge $35 to fix them.

    Denon D2000 Problems!

This is the weak part of the Denon design. There are a couple ways to fix this. For the wooden cups you can get longer screws. Go to the hobby shop and look for #2 wood screws in 3/8 or 1/2". You can also get them with allen heads if you hate philips. For the ring-to-driver problem you can...

    Modding Senn hd280

I've experimented. I did not like the blu-tak or dynamat mods - they diminished the bass way too much. Easy to open up. Two things you should know: 1. the stock wire is VERY thin, and mine was caught under a screw so it was nearly broken. I have not replaced the wire yet, but I suspect it...

Trying to decide between a pair of closed headphones

I just picked up a used set of Creative Aurvana live headphones, aka Denon 1001, aka Foster. These have the little-brother drivers to the Denon 5000. I am blown away by them! I also have some Ultrasone hfi-700 and Denon d2000 w/ Jena Labs cable, and Proline 650s w/Mogami. The cheapy Creatives...

[N00b] Best cans for a basshead on a budget?

I've had the hfi-700 and pro-650, and listened to the hfi-680, pro 750 and Ed.9. I used to be an Ultrasone fan, but then I discovered the Denon 2000 (modded, of course). Do yourself a favor and save up for them. They have a midrange clarity that the Ultrasones lack (except Ed 9). After 400...
