The NIKON Thread (Talk About Nikon Stuff here)
My first post in this thread. I have a D3100, along with the 18-55mm and 50-200mm lens. I'm looking to add a wide angle lens to the mix to shoot akin to some of the awesome wide angle shots I've seen online. Mind you, I'm a novice and so may not be able to grasp all the technical stuff. Would...- rjoseph

ATH-M50 amp
If using with a laptop, then are you looking for a USB DAC? In that case, a Pro-ject USB box is good enough. I personally use a D7000 for desktop listening (with the Pro-ject) and the M-50 with my iPhone (portable indoors).- rjoseph

bass of the AH-D7000
I find the bass on the D7000 to be just about on the spot. True I have not modded or added the Jpads but I have no inclination to since what I hear is what I like. I have had it for about close to a year now and I am inclined to say they suit me just fine. They are the closest I am reminded of...- rjoseph

how easy is it to damage speakers?
Do you have a general formula on what the comparable amp output to speaker RMS should be? Curious about it since my receive is 75 watts/channel and speakers are 175/channel. -
Vinyl Owners -- Question v.Record Cleaning
I'm still in the initial stages of the vinyl experimentation and I like it so far. My cleaning routine used to be to use a soapy liquid (home brew with Dawn) to wash; and water to rinse the vinyl followed by a microfiber to wipe off the moisture. Recently I bought a 1 gallon shop vac from...- rjoseph

Next Step Up With Speakers
Before you buy, check out a few hi-fi stores in your area. You may get a feel for the sound and also make note of the ones you may be looking for. With luck you may get them used for a whole lot cheaper. -
Powered Monitors
The Mackies are perfect for me. I use it extensively with all my sources: CDP, Computer audio and Vinyl. They have XLR inputs which is substantially better than the unbalanced inputs. Try both of them at a local guitarcenter and choose for yourself. -
Phonopreamp under $100
Try Audiogon.com . There are a few listed there for under $100. They should be pretty good as well.- rjoseph

Question on modern TTs
Thanks ssportclay. I had seen a Pro-ject Expression and Rega P3 at a local hi-fi store and was wondering if they match up to TT I have at home. But I did not get the opportunity to listen to them since they were not setup. I do not think I'll go in for one in the near future but was curious how...- rjoseph

Question on modern TTs
I have a pretty good Denon DP-1200 with a DL-160 cart and think it sounds great. Also as a second TT is a B&O Rx2 with a MMC4. The Denon and B&O are not comparable and worlds apart in favor of the denon. The question to some of you who have used the Rega P3s and above: How much of an upgrade...- rjoseph

Changed Budget: Yet another speaker recommendation thread. ~$500?
Any of the newer receivers will be able to handle your speaker's needs, unless you buy some higher end speakers which need high current to shine. You can also try used on craigslist.- rjoseph

Is my Amplifier sufficient?
I recently bought a great pair of Wharfedale Modus 1.6 speakers locally. Its rated at 170 wpc @ 8 ohms. I currently run it out of my Denon receiver (AVR-488) which I think outputs 75 or 80 wpc. I find it to be musically sound with this amplification. But my question is if I swap my receiver with...- rjoseph

AudioEngine A5's or Mackies Mr5....can't decide..
Okay, I've heard all three and the first one out of the race was the KRK5s. And personally between the A5 and the MR5, I picked the MR5s. They are great value for the money. Personally I love them more since I dont need a sub with them (saves me the money). They can get real low and are tonally...- rjoseph

Best turntable for ~$300?
Duals make a good entry TT. Nice Solid workhorses and will be a good buy. Ensure you change the cart to get the best out of it. And download the manual, if you dont get one along with it, from vinylengine.com. Enjoy your purchase!- rjoseph
