I made an approximation to what you recommended with your EQ settings, and it made a huge difference.  It takes some of the airy quality away from the sound, but in a way it's a good thing.  Everything has much more presence, and the bass is given enough of a boost to be prominent in the mix...

I can't say anything about their gaming capabilities, but they'll be able to handle pretty much any music you throw at them fairly well. Bass isn't lacking, but won't blow you away. If you're on a fairly tight budget and don't need any sort of isolation, go for it.
