How about the AKG K271 MKII? K 271 MK II They drive well with an Ipod, sound better when amped, are rugged for portable use and will leave extra money for a better home amp.

Using mine with D7000's. Have the parts to balance them, just haven't taken the time.

I had a similar problem. Mike was very helpful troubleshooting it. Turned out that the inductor between the digital board and the DAC board was broken. Once replaced all was good. You should read 5V on both sides of the inductor. The inductor is a 1uH.

There was mention of adding another 8 DAC chips to the unit. Is this possible? What would accomplished by doing so?
