Broke down and got a pair (another 595 thread)

I am another recent 595 purchaser and am hoping that I find the same improved experience others have had with burn-in. Normally, I listen to my headphones when they burn in, but with these things I just cannot. Too bright and grating. Oh well, I guess delayed gratification builds character right!

    Would an attenuator solve this?

Rock Cans for Total Airhead Amp?

I have the Bithead, 225s and 600s. I would suggest to continue using the 225s. They are excellent for rock music. I auditioned the 225s and the 325s - it is a matter of preference but I ended up going with the 225s. I tested them with the Bithead (and a Pod) and I found the extremes (hi trebles...

    Benchmark's Dac1 and Stereophile

Speaking of the price performance ratio for the DAC1 (I am also considering it right now), have they RAISED their price? In the Stereophile review, it is $850, while the price is now $975 (rack kit included). The rack kit is $75 separately, but normally a bundle is supposed to give you a...

    Connecting Laptop to Benchmark DAC

OK, I've been rereading a lot of the threads about the subject of transports and DACs and I think I am beginning to understand it. One think I can say for sure is that the topic of transports is pretty controversial. I've never seen so many new users start their posting careers with guns...

    Connecting Laptop to Benchmark DAC

I've read through a lot of threads, but can't piece together enough info for a conclusion so I thought I'd ask the question directly: I am going to be using a dedicated windows laptop with an external hard drive to hook up to a Benchmark DAC (probably will use iTunes). What is the best way...

    Amplifier Too Loud - Attenuator?

I am also interested in hearing your opinions on the Goldenjacks and the use of attenuators in general. At work, I have a Headroom Little (More Power/Premium) paired with Grado 225s. Since the 225s are fairly sensitive, I was having the same problem as you that I wasn't able to turn the volume...

Where to get Grados in downtown Manhattan?

I work in downtown Manhattan and went to the Stereo Exchange at Broadway/Houston. I tested the 225s vs the 325s and they were very nice about it - I brought an amp and my pod with me and spent about 1/2 hour in one of their sound rooms. They were a little differently burnt it (not as many people...

Do USB soundcards limit gaming performance?

Do USB soundcards limit gaming performance?

I read somewhere that use of a USB soundcard can limit gaming performance on a PC because the USB connection places demands on the processor. Does anyone know if this is true? And if it is, is it really that significant for a new PC? (i.e. the gaming specified machines on the market currently)...

High end on E3c and ER6i

Thanks for all the useful info so far on E3c vs ER6i. Here's my question: I use the E3c as my "active" canalphone (unamped), for when I am out and about, or in the gym, etc. I have found it very easy to maintain a seal no matter what I am doing, which I have been pretty impressed with. I...

    Are level attenuators the answer?

I picked up some -6 db Harrison attenuators today to try them out. So far, I cannot detect any meaningful difference in sound quality. Although it is very hard to test, because you can't switch back and forth easily. I am surprised by how little attentuation -6 db is. It has allowed me to...

Which sleeves give you the best sound from your E3Cs?

I bought the e3 specifically for the gym to use without an amp (too much to carry). They are very easy to drive which makes them well suited for use without an amp. I tried out most of the earpiece types over several weeks. The triple flange I found to be very disappointing. First of all, the...

    Are level attenuators the answer?

Some quick questions for those of you that have experimented with level attenuators: I am running Grado 225s out of an amp, and because they are so easy to drive, I don't even get past 8 o'clock on the volume dial. So I am considering some Harrison attentuators to damp my inbound source...

    Senn 600 cables and impedance

Does upgrading from stock cables on the Senn 600 change its impedance? The reason I ask is that if you are listening to two pairs of headphones from the same amp, they are supposed to have the same impedance. I'm thinking of upgrading from the stock to Zu or Cardas. I'm sure cable upgrades have...

Headroom MOH Loop Out - Question for the Experts!

I just purchased the Headroom MOH Reference Loop Out (couldn't resist the sale). I got the loop out because I do mostly headphone listening and wanted to have my source directly into the MOH, rather than through an extra inter-connect and my amp. The loop out runs into my amp. Headroom says that...

    Huge amp sale at headroom!

I spoke to someone there as well and heard something different - they said that the whole line may be revamped in six months. I know I have seen some discussions of tube amps in the Headroom forum, but that could just be an addition to the line. Of course, none of this stopped me from getting a...

    Best Headphones/Earbuds/Canalphones for Working out/Sports?

Don't forget to consider cord noise as well - when you are moving around a lot, it can get pretty annoying. I recently purchased some headphones specifically for the gym. I was deciding between the Ety 6 and the Shure EC3 and cord noise was the deciding factor for me. The Shure's have almost...

    Grado SR-225's or SR-325's

Not sure if you bought anything yet, but i thought I'd chime in because I just tested the 225 vs 325 a few days ago - I used an Ipod and a Total Airhead to test with a variety of music, and the headphones were reasonably burned in according to the guy at the store. Bottom line is that I...

Thanks Elnero. Those look pretty yellow! I guess I will have to try the SR60 pads with a cutout. My ears are getting pretty sore!
