Hum when plugging new A-T headphone
My other phone is an AKG K-601 and it didn't hum with the amp, I have used the combination for several years. The AKG is being repaired at AKG at this time because the left channel went out. The amp is a JMT PPA. Touching the amp everywhere makes no difference. I think the culprit is the...- Val

Hum when plugging new A-T headphone
I just purchased Audio-Technica AD900 headphones. When I plug them directly into my sound card with the 1/8-inch connector they play OK but without much bass. Plugging them into my headphone amplifier with the 1/4-inch adaptor results in loud hum and noise. Juggling with the plug helps sometimes...- Val

Driver for AV-710
I am using Vista and couldn't get the Envy24 Vista beta driver to work. The built-in Vista drivers work well in stereo, in fact, the sound is better than in XP.- Val

Anyone using Windows Vista?
My Chaintech AV-710 sounds better in Vista than in XP (no exclusive mode, though); EAC and Slimserver work well in Vista.- Val

PC Audio set up rccomendations
I had to redo my stereo system from almost zero and after much searching I decided on the PC + Squeezebox solution, although a USB external box is another perfectly good option. My reasons at the time were low initial cost plus an open upgrade path and I think both are covered. The basic SB is...- Val

Which flavour of Zhaolu For Me?
Another option for you would be one of several Squeezebox modifications: upgraded PS, upgraded outputs. PS: There is a Bolder-modded Elpac power supply on sale at SlimDevices.- Val

Comparative review of the AKG K501 and Sennheiser HD600 headphones (long!!)
First of all, your command of English is impressive and I should know because it is also a second language for me. God knows I have struggled with it for years. This is a classic, never-ending headphone comparison and I agree with your general findings. Comments: 1. I don't know if the...- Val

kwkarth, Neruda!
To my ears, the AKG graph is right on the money, except they perhaps don't sound that much bass-shy to me. They do sound a bit distant or recessed, just what the droop between 2kHz and 5kHz causes, and a bit, a wee bit silvery due to the small peak at 6kHz.- Val

Anyone use FM tuners?
RickG, I have used both the Magnum-Dynalab ST-2 and the Fanfare FM-2G inside apartments and on outside walls of houses. Both are very similar (I think the ST-2 is a bit better made) and both work reasonably well inside and very well outside. Nevertheless, I agree that there is nothing like a...- Val

do headphone reveal audio flaws more than speaker
Yes sir! Good headphones are more revealing than good speakers. For example, I am very familiar with the Chesky set of Beethoven symphonies, to which I keep returning due to its musicality and great analog sound (the Golden era of stereo, Kenneth Wilkinson as recording engineer) and recently...- Val
