MPX3 Transformation
A significant part of burn-in is psychoacoustic adaptation. With tube amps, it's more due to the amp than with solid state due to the fact that tubes do change their sound while they are warming up and burn-in a bit, but still, much of the burn-in is psychoacoustic in nature. I experienced...- e_dawg

M cubed vs Gilmore Lite mini-comparison
Well, I've heard the 8065 in a different guise... the 8066 in a Headsave Home-Vibe. Basically found that it had excellent speed, killer dynamics and slam, but had relatively harsh treble compared to my reference 627/PPA combo. And now that I have gotten into tube amps, I find my favourite...- e_dawg

0 or 120 ohm output?

0 or 120 ohm output?
Oh sure, you can use the Senns with the 0 ohm output, and as you say, it is often preferable to do so. I was just saying that it's "okay" to use the Senns with a 120 ohm output, but not so much with Grados and Sonys.- e_dawg

0 or 120 ohm output?
0 ohm is definitely preferable for low impedance cans like Sonys and Grados. You never want the output impedance of your amp to be higher than that of your headphones. If you had 300 ohm Sennheisers, for example, you could use the 120 ohm outputs, but not with 70 ohm Sonys and 32 ohm Grados.- e_dawg

MPX3 and MPX3 Slam.
Oh, and another benefit of the 6CG7 version is that you do not have to pay any more to upgrade it to a 12v 12SN7 or SLAM configuration to be able to use the cheap but good 6CG7 tubes. No additional cost up front AND cheap tubes.- e_dawg

MPX3 and MPX3 Slam.
Don't forget the MPX3-6CG7 version as another alternative. The tubes are pretty cheap and they generally sound very good. The 6CG7, after all, is electrically the same as the 6SN7. The gold standard 6CG7 tubes, the RCA Cleartops, can be found everywhere and are only ~$10 per tube. If you want a...- e_dawg

Am I the only person still enjoying the PPA??
I once loved the PPA. Looking for more, I tried the much praised MG Head DT/OTL Mk3... it paled in comparison. Then I got the SinglePower MPX3. I haven't used the PPA since... until today. One listen and I am reminded why...- e_dawg

PPX3 impressions
Try an RCA Black plate as a gain tube and RCA Cleartops on the outputs. The Black plate is a little faster than the Cleartops. Makes the midbass a little tighter and less boomy/warm.- e_dawg

is it bad to turn off and on often?
I leave all my components on 24x7 unless I'm going to be away for the weekend or if I'm not going to be listening to music for a couple days. With tube amps, you should warm them up for 5-10 anyways before you listen to them, which is a PITA. Basically, the consensus is if you're not going...- e_dawg

Recommendations for Headphone Amp?
No price range? SinglePower MPX3 should be a good choice for something in the $800-1,000 price range. Above that and the law of diminishing returns sets in IMO...- e_dawg

So I received my new tube amp from Hong Kong, PICS
Definitely try new tubes. They sound like they are noisy and microphonic. Physical abuse (like through shipping) can cause structural problems that can cause noise and microphony. It could be a cheapo pot that is causing the cracking sound, but you would be surprised how sensitive amps can be...- e_dawg

Hmm... well you know I tried power cables before, and it never seemed to make a difference. Years ago, I used a thick power cable that was for my Bryston power amp, but it didn't make a difference. HD650 and Zu Mobius Tip
Scraped and bruised my thumb trying to get the Mobius on to my HD650. Used so much force on the left side that the driver unit popped out of its seat and I learned firsthand how modular the Sennheisers are. I took apart the left earcup and reseated the driver unit, connected the Mobius with one...- e_dawg
