$400 or Less for A Warm Set of Over-Ears
Beyer DT 150 are said to sound similar to HD-650, and they are closed back. Ugly AF though, but good sounding and not expensive.- varzyl

$400 or Less for A Warm Set of Over-Ears
Hd650 is open back, with very little isolation. And for them to shine you would need to spend something starting from the $200 range. Another one to considerato if you are OK with open back is the Fidelio x2, wich is way easier to drive (micca origen or fiio e10k is fine) Another interesting one...- varzyl

Need help hd 650 vs dt 990 for fast phased music !
If the main preference is EDM I'd go for a closed HP,like DT770,Fostex th-x00,ZMF,Mad dogs for more bass impact and sub bass extension. An interesting tool for bass could be the subpac s2- varzyl

Prog rock
Yeah, I hate how much even their stories (Fish-Marillion and Gabriel-Genesis resemble). Damn pop. I must admit that I also like Fish's solo Albums, and even some pop era Marillion stuff (Marbles and Brave mostly). Can't say the same for pop era Genesis yet. I tried several times to like them... -
My first open-air headphone - $400 or less - thoughts on these options
Quote: I think I started a discussion on the mid-fi vs hi-fi term over a misunderstanding of OP with Wapencio. I thought OP wasn't liking the Fidelio X2 suggestions just because it was labelled as "mid fi", hence with no appeal to him. Sorry for derailing the thread a little, OP. ...- varzyl

Amp needed for hearing impaired:
I read that a couple times and I still haven't figured out what you are asking. Unit is a bit unclear :D BTW, you don't want to use the speaker out signal and use it as a line signal source. Don't you have the Tape out RCA from your multi channel receiver\amp? EDIT: off topic, don't know...- varzyl

Prog rock
Something that I haven't seen posted yet could be one of my favourites: Marillion (Fish era). Some hate on Fish for trying too hard to emulate Peter Gabriel, but I honestly can only appreciate him for doing that. Technically it's Neo-Prog, more easy\melodic?, and with more guitars over synths... -
Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
I don't have specific amp suggestions apart from going with a tube amp. But I think you should also consider a NOS R2R DAC: read this interesting review, I guess that might work for you: http://www.head-fi.org/t/709720/starting-point-systems-portable-nos-dac/15#post_11399021- varzyl

My first open-air headphone - $400 or less - thoughts on these options
Well, with $400 budget you are in the "mid-fi" territory. What is mid-fi? Well, if you ask me it's just a term. I consider it a pretty nice spot to be in, considering that HD6x0, Fidelio X2, Hifiman 400s\i and many others good phones belong here. What is accepted as hifi usually goes for $1000...- varzyl

+1 on the fidelio x2, if you can get it for $200-250. Micca origen seems a solid choice with it too- varzyl

Why 24 bit audio and anything over 48k is not only worthless, but bad for music.
I personally just tried to discern 24bit\192khz FLAC and Opus 128 VBR (16bit\48khz) and miserably failed (on Foobar+ABX, using Norah Jones "What am I to you"). I managed to pass the Golden Ear from Philips, but I remember the Silver level 128kbps mp3 as one of the most difficult test. I...- varzyl

most cost effective headphone under 130 eur/dollars
https://www.amazon.it/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201149900 Since you mentioned Amazon.it I assume you are Italian. If not, just read the .com version: return policy is the same. Basically you should just pay the return shipping fee. I didn't even pay that though, don't know if that's...- varzyl

most cost effective headphone under 130 eur/dollars
Consensus (http://www.head-fi.org/t/619172/question-about-iems-vs-headphones http://www.head-fi.org/t/639044/500-iem-vs-500-headphones/30 ) is that up until the $200-300 price range, IEM (especially the hybrids or multi armored drivers) are technically superior sounding compared to full size...- varzyl

most cost effective headphone under 130 eur/dollars
open over ear, i agree with you. Closed over ear vs IEM in the €150 range I personally think IEM are better. Just buy both and return the one that you like the least (both are on Prime 30 days return time). EDIT: BTW, have you read this thread...- varzyl

most cost effective headphone under 130 eur/dollars
If isolation and use for outside\library\university\public transport is a big part of the time spent with it, I'd personally consider IEMs. Best setup for me is open headphones at home, and IEM for outside. Fidue A73 is probably the best thing you can buy in that budget imho. €125 on...- varzyl

Best amp/dac combination recommendation
With that budget I'd probably take a Garage 1217 Project Ember 2\Polaris (or Crack+Speedball if you'd like to get into DIY and soldering), and a Modi 2 Uber!- varzyl

IEM Recomendation arround 20$
I recently jumped the hype train on the KZ Ate but I'm still waiting for it (aliexpress). Another IEM you could consider is the Sony Mh1c, I got one from Amazon.it for €17, and so far I can only agree with the claim made by others. They impressed me for quality\value. I must say that I am a...- varzyl

Dac+Amp for a Sennheiser HD 650
I don't know the Switz importer you read about on reddit. I haven't heard neither Modi 2U nor M6. So far I gathered some information since I'm in the same spot as you: Here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pljxGEpJyTM is a comparison between SMSL Sanskrit 6th (DAC only) and Modi 2U, and...- varzyl

Dac+Amp for a Sennheiser HD 650
Odac has no optical input, so rule it out. Modi 2 uber does have it, and you can pair it with a magni 2. There is an EU importer based in Netherlands. It will cost about €300. http://www.schiit-europe.com Worth or not worth is subjective. A good option would be to buy both the schiit stack and...- varzyl
