Questions of Science and Progress?
Quote: Please understand that I dont disagree with anything that you've stated. I agree that perception is faulty and different from reality. Plato would roll out of his grave and slap me upside the head if I ever stated that. A lot of what I am discussing boils down to the existence of...- pdupiano

Questions of Science and Progress?

Questions of Science and Progress?
Quote: I'm pretty sure you missed my points in the other threads to make such a statement. And quite possible the point of this one. All that I am pointing out is that science cannot give you ultimate truth (something true for all time) and at best it can give you what is the "best...- pdupiano

Dragonball Evolution..... dum da da dummmmmm 1/10 Probably the worst movie I have ever seen. As a fan of the old dragonball series, this movie was a turnoff from the start but I tried to give it a chance. Unfortunately, unbelievably bad acting (the kind that makes you wonder if they're...- pdupiano

Grado 325 earpiece mod?
You can go and buy the "bagel pads" that normally sell with the GS1000's, here's a link for headroom: http://www.headphone.com/accessories/headphone-parts/grado-earpads-gs-1000-cushions-pair.php You can also buy c-pads from headphile.com, all the way at the bottom of the page...- pdupiano

best budget replacement cables for Sennheiser HD 650's?
Quote: Ah too bad, thought it was occ and stranded. Solid core's beginning to become a real turnoff for me as headphone cable. -
Solid silver core cable + cardas connector with HD 600
Yeah, Id recommend something stranded over a solid stranded cable for headphones. But if you MUST get solid strand, try getting something thats 26AWG and reinforcing the cable to reduce on the stiffness of the cable. I'd recommend 26awg bare silver + 24 awg teflon covered in some type of cotton... -
best budget replacement cables for Sennheiser HD 650's?
Quote: Can I ask for the source of the 25' OCC copper? Would it happen to be stranded as well? That would really make the cable a lot easier to braid and use. I recently used some Neotech OCC (solid) and wasn't too happy with the results, even with a 26 awg wire. -
Rate The Last Movie You Watched
Just saw the Graduate... pretty impressed, definitely a 9/10 for me. I watched it because I read it was connected to a "quarter life crisis," and the movie definitely revolves around that theme but its a bit unfortunate to find out that the movie began with Ben suffering through his crisis and...- pdupiano

Denon D5000 Cable Sheath Quality Concerns
Techflex will easily stretch over the plug, and if you want to use heatshrink, you can find 4:1 and 3:1 heatshrink at wirecare.com or on ebay. I don't think 2:1 will work because of the large difference between the diameter of the plug and the cable, but I'm certain 3:1 and 4:1 would do the...- pdupiano

DIY Cable Gallery!!
Quote: Unless I can see how everything's connected, I'm not sure. But as long as you go balanced, a lot of that shouldn't matter in your case. And as far as for show goes, I have to admit their 8wire cables are hot... especially with their newest copper wire W/FEP jacket. That's a thing...- pdupiano

DIY Cable Gallery!!
Quote: As CyberSpider points out 4 is adequate for a cable (balanced or otherwise), but the issue is that if you dont have a balanced set up (in other words you're using a single ended amp, I would worry about cross talk and other noise). Cross talk is just having one channel...- pdupiano

DIY Cable Gallery!!
Aren't you worried about crosstalk and having an unshielded cable? If it was balanced, none of this would matter, but you stand getting more noise than benefits from a recable, You could do an 8 wire braid and use 4 wires as drains (psuedo shields) and the other 4 for signals. But be...- pdupiano

Denon D5000 Cable Sheath Quality Concerns
I've owned all 3 models (D2k, D5k, and D7k) and the cable for the D5k has been the worst for me as far as the cloth covering is concerned. It was pretty bad and I actually got the same deformations that you have near the plug all throughout the cable. I actually have had the best luck with the...- pdupiano

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
There's only one thing that confuses me about the first post. If what people hear from 16-bit systems is the recording + noise from Dither, then doesn't that mean that with larger bits, we would hear less noise and dithering would be unnecessary? But Gregorio goes on to state that...- pdupiano

Am I the only one Incredibly Annoyed by the new Starburst/Holly Robinson Peete Ad that's on Head-fi?
I'm sorry but what's with the new ads on head-fi with sound? I'm listening to something and in the next minute I hear "Hi, I'm Holy Robinson...." The worst part is that if you have multiple tabs open (chrome) and click away, the ad will start up again after a few minutes. Is there a...- pdupiano

grado help please
Just listen to both and see which you like at the time. If the 325i's do get better after burn in, it won't matter to you anyway because you no longer own the headphones. If the 325's get worse after burn in, then well you can't go back to the rs2's since they're gone as well. Ooor flip a coin...- pdupiano

Accidentally destroyed K701 housing
The easiest "base" to use would be a pair of grados. From taking headphones apart to mod them I rank the easiest to assemble/disassemble (of those I've modified) as follows: Grado (All plastic Models and 325 metal) Sennheiser (HD580/600/650) Beyerdynamic Dt770/880 D2000/5000/7000 ATH...- pdupiano

Accidentally destroyed K701 housing
I've never heard the akg's described as "Plasticky" but as far as I know, no one has made aftermarket k701 mods. The fact of the matter is that the akg design is highly specific and a lot of the parts snap together. Metal and wood can't really do something like that, only plastic can. If you...- pdupiano

Is the Sennhiser HD 650 THAT MUCH "Better" than the Senn HD 598?
Grab a pair of Grado SR60's and try those out. They're fairly cheap and it will introduce you to the "unveiled" up front sound. It might be helpful in finding what you are lookign for in the future.- pdupiano
