    Shure SE846 Impressions Thread

Here's a short comparison based on my impression so far. Keep in mind I have the active 65t which should be the same driver as 65t, just higher waterproof rating of ipx56. Sound quality : 846/BT2 naturally wins without a doubt. BT2 also gives higher overall volume vs 65t. BT2 amp, IMO, is...

    Shure SE846 Impressions Thread

    1. SE846 is not veiled. 2. Comparing an IEM to an open pair with the biggest soundstage such as the 800s is like saying "oranges are often way more sour and rounder than apples" 3. They each serve a different purpose unless you feel comfortable walking around in public with 800s strapped to...

:L3000::L3000::L3000: That's how my head is like when listening to Z1R. I wasn't the one doing the shaking. Z1R did. Anyhow, refer to my above response to Hoegaardener70.

I second the Atticus recommendation as a complement set. I personally prefer Atticus over Z1R, especially for the $. The look and design also go well against the Clear.

    Focal Clear headphones

If @Phronesis were looking for a pair to complement the Clear then Z1R could be a contender. My statement was purely based on his carefully auditioned preference of the Clear. Even if he's looking for a complement set, I believe there're other options as well. First came to mind was Fostex...

Agreed and I much prefer Beats Studio3 Bluetooth over HE400i. I could move freely around house while listening to God's plan and Anaconda...Try the Beats out sometimes. They are actually really good. Bass is way better than HE400i.

    FiiO X7 Mk II 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM + ESS9028 PRO + Balanced + DSD + BT 4.1 aptX + Dual mSD + Dual Band WiFi + Opt Out

That should be the Q5 which runs the same amp modules as X7.

    FiiO X7 Mk II 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM + ESS9028 PRO + Balanced + DSD + BT 4.1 aptX + Dual mSD + Dual Band WiFi + Opt Out

On high gain, it would drive HD800 to acceptable volume...but that's really about it "acceptable volume" and nothing else IME. What you get with X7 MK 2 + HD800 combo won't be horrible but will be far far from even decent to good synergy. I did test this combo out just for kick. The HD800...

In my pro audio years, 2 reasons for balanced : 1. Noise/interference prevention. 2. Signal strength for long cable run.

Could just be for connection convenience. After volume matching, IME, no difference on either my desktop amp or DAP. I do run the Clear balanced on both though.

IMO, you are doing it right. Just the fact that you are comparing and considering all 3 Focal models shows that you are very self aware and not drinking any kool-aid. :beerchug: Let us know after you decide. Gluck...

+1 IMO, we need to be honest with ourselves and be aware of our listening capability. Some of us will buy TOTL and could easily hear and appreciate that last few % of improvement. Some go straight to TOTL but won't be able to discern, and therefore would imagine/pretend/make believe or at best...

    Focal Clear headphones

If you can't hear the technicality differences between the Clear and Utopia without straining and paying super close attention to the music, just get the Clear + a decent amp. That's my personal guideline to compare HPs at relatively same level. Everything else, IMO, is just different...

It seems so. IMO, the Clear, being right down the middle with good technicality and excellent tonality balance, would fit him best.

I am one of those people who think and imagine...like you said. I wasn't one until I own the HE-6. I thought people were crazy driving HE-6 with speaker amps pumping out 50+ watts/channel. Generally, this kind of power is not needed like you stated but obviously, there're always exceptions...

    True-Fi Software by Sonarworks

Just tried out TrueFi this afternoon. I am very impressed. TrueFi put my HD800 EQ curves to shame. HD800 low end never sound so juicy and rumbling... (no bass boost in TF). HD800 response to EQ exceptionally well. My urge to try out HD800S just vaporized. For Focal Clear, there's a slight...
