    Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

Yeah, the Lawton mod is easy to do, and the instructions on the website were good enough for me. Hardest part is the very tiny screws that hold on the wood cups. I have mechanic-like hands, NOT suited for delicate work like that at all, but I got it done. As far as fitment of the dampening...

The Stax SR-L500 and SR-L700 Impressions Thread

That chart!!! I haven't started using MiniDSP, UMIK-1 and REW on my Home Theater yet, but it's on the to-do list. I've had my twin subs measured by an acquaintance though, and I'm VERY jealous of that straight-as-a-board bass graph!! I have a decent bass hump, but since I'm 100% focused on movie...

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

I frequently compare the overall FR of my Stax earspeakers to my HD600. Both my SR207 and L700 sound pretty close to HD600 to my ears.......I'm sure someone with better ears could pick out differences besides the obvious E-stat advantages that I don't need to rehash here.

The Stax SR-L500 and SR-L700 Impressions Thread

I can't directly answer your question, but I can answer about SR207 vs L700, as I own both. SR207 and L700 have surprisingly about the same FR...which is to say, largely Neutral to my ears. L700 simply outdoes SR207 in every category to me, though. Faster, more detailed, more comfortable, etc...

    The Stax Thread III

Oh, some people have different priorities is all, I think. I already had a setup better than most people will ever dream of in my L700 + 353X. I could have spent a lot of money chasing a little bit more...... But in my case, I decided to spend that $5K on twin subwoofers for my Home Theater...

TH-900 Fostex EZ-Simple Mods and other Fostex Dynamic Variants X00...Denon..More Bass ? Mid ? Soundstage ? Smooth trebles ?

I did the Lawton driver-only mod to my X00 Purplehearts, and also added ZMF Ori pads. That's as far as I got with mods, but consider both to be very worthwhile. I always intended to also try rotating the foam disc, as well as @Vracer111 's custom attenuator mod, but never got around to the @ 10...

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

I hate to be a broken record, but you should hear Stax if you're into detail. I firmly espouse my own idea that you should take two entire WEEKS to become used to them before doing serious comparisons with other HPs. I call this "brain burn-in", but there's almost zero chance I coined the phrase...

    Stax SR-L300 Impressions Thread

First off, let me say outright I don't own either L300 variant. I do own an L700. The main draw of the L300LE, I believe, is that the driver is close to the L700 driver. Identical? Maybe yes, maybe no....I haven't seen anything definitive either way. But I don't think many would disagree that...

    Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

Having done the Lawton mod, but just going from memory.....I agree, Dynamat is the closest I could come to it from my (very limited) experience; but at the same time, no, it isn't that. I'd have no idea where you could find the same material.

Music, no. Not a whole lot. Movies HECK YES there's sub-20Hz content! My home subs are tuned to 13Hz, and reach adequately to maybe 10Hz or so. Those with truly badass equipment cherish movies that reach down to single digits. You won't hear much ULF (Ultra Low Frequency) content from the likes...

The Stax SR-L500 and SR-L700 Impressions Thread

As always, Jim, I learn a lot reading your posts! I don't post much, but I lurk every day. What you stated makes perfect sense to me, even though I'm just an average person with very little practical knowledge of electronics. +1 for logic

Thanks for your impression, though my wallet is silently giving you the finger! Ohhhhh...I'm actually eyeballing the RME DAC myself. Plan to do lots more research before I jump into anything, of course.

I haven't answered earlier because of the amps you're considering, I've only had experience with 353X. I can't compare it to anything else. 353X vs 353X BK though, is an easy one. The amps are absolutely identical, except the BK model is in black and is a Limited Edition. I haven't looked, so...

He is very correct and I had overlooked that detail. My 252S is a Japan model and I purchased a Jameco wall-wart to make it U.S. compatible. Both my SRM-1 Mk2 and my 353X are U.S. models though, no power converter needed. I do have a rather beefy converter laying around though, just in case I...

    Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

Yes to ZMF pads (Ori lambskin myself) Yes to Lawton driver mods Yes to ZMF Pilot Pad (larger noggins need not apply though) And finally...... Yes to a Stax setup as a neutral-ish "complimentary" pair to marry up with your Fostex. I'm not a critical listener, so can't tell you specifics of the...

Yep, should be good to go! Stax energisers have RCA pass-throughs, so you can easily add them into your existing audio chain. Just need 1 more pair of RCAs. example: JDS -> Stax252S -> (your current amp)

*blinks* Never heard of a metal L700. But just because I've never heard of it, doesn't mean it might not exist, I guess.

Though I haven't heard the 950's or the L300 (I own L700), I agree with Keith. Especially about the HD650....I urge you to keep them (in addition to the Stax), they are excellent to reference other headphones to :)

    Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

Damn you must have a big melon! :p LOL j/k Nah, my Pilot Pad hasn't really compressed that I know of...and I think mine is close to 2 years old now. *edit* I've had to bend my X00 headband in kind of an inverted V-shape to try to *increase* clamp on my ears.....it's possible that gave me some...

I don't have a T-1, but my SRM-1 Mk2 is the exact unit in the Z Reviews video. And my ears largely agree with his regarding 252S vs SRM-1 vs 353X (I bought my 353X afterwards). My particular SRM-1 *may* need to be recapped...but is a definite resolution step up from my 252S. However it does...

    Philips SHP9500 Discussion Thread

LOL those were my pairs of SHP's and X2's that DMS reviewed. And my HD600, HD6XX, T50's, K7XX, etc......I sent him damn near my whole collection to jump-start his channel. I think every video in that 2-month or so period was of my HPs. And my ears agree with most (not all) of his findings...
