    Stax Sr-X Mark III Impressions

Glad to hear your back, timb5881. my question to all those who pulled their old cans out of storage is why you packed them us in the first place. Just curious.

How was it buying from Yahoo Japan? I've been interested in a few items; but I'm not sure I trust the site.

    Vintage Stax repair and maintenance

I have a similar problem with my SR-X Mk III/SRD-7; but on a much smaller scale. I am not sure if it's the earspeakers or the Driver; but I think it would be corrected with a driver that has separate volume control on each channel. I've been looking at a SRM-313. Does anyone know how it compares...

How did you get from the Magnepan Unitrac to the Wand, anyway? What country are you in?

Sometimes, yes. The cheapest I can find a used SME 309 for is $2,000. There is an Alexandria MK IV that needs some repair for sale. It has a mint 309 on it. The guy wants $1,160. The problem is he is in Denmark and wants all the money up front. I'm very tempted; but the risk is too high.

I wouldn't think a Pro-Ject would be an upgrade over the MMT. The SME V or 345 are too dear at this time and probably overkill for an Alexandria. The Wand+ may be a great option.

I do, too. I have a DL-301 mk II that I love. It looks a lot different than the original 301. So how do you like the Wand+. I'm looking at tonearm upgrades. Does anyone have any suggestions for an Oracle Alexandria MK III?

So which cartridge is that? Looks like a DL-110 that was scared white. Did you ever try the Talisman? Just wondering what your opinion was?

I would think both those changes would be downgrades, if the Talisman S diamond has some life left in it. Many think they are well worth retipping. Do you have a LOMC phono stage?

    Vintage Stax repair and maintenance

I got a SR-44 set up around 1975. It eventually developed an intermittent signal loss in the L earspeaker and fell into disuse. So sad! In 2014 I bought a used SR-4. Happy again. Also, that was my introduction to eBay. Eventually I found a SR-34. I actually think I like the SR-44 better. Four...

It turns out the R/L imbalance of all my STAX headphones has been cured. The problem was with the components between the earspeakers - my left ear. For some reason it's a lot better now. Anyway. I am thinking of selling either the SR-34 or SR-44. Which would you keep?

You can try HiFi headphones CA (canada) https://www.hifiheadphones.ca/stax-cpc-1-clear-protective-cover/#desc Or go to the Stax site and look up the Canadian Distributors. I got my ear pads from American Sound http://www.americansound.com/

I have a pair of SR X series replacement pads coming from a non-USA distributor, since I never received any reply from any of the alleged ones in my homeland. I don't think they'll fart; but I won't mind if they sound better (musically, that is) than the threadbare fossils I've been using.

Old thread; but for search engine pilots, here goes: I couldn't find the ESW9 s listed above; so I bought these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-pairs-of-Ear-Pads-For-Audio-Technica-ATH-SJ5-DJ-Style-Headphones-Black/251260271791?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 They seem...

I have an Alex II and just got a III; both with Sumiko Premier MMT arms. That means I have 4 tables and only room for 3. I'll have to sell either the Alex II or a Linn Basik with an LVX. I'll have fun testing them against each other to figure it out. But I think it will be hard to fit the Alex...

A natural sounding DAC. Does it even exist?

I really don't understand that statement. I also have an Oracle Alexandria. It is properly set up by a professional ( the suspension us great; but a PTIA to get spot on) and I use Shure V15V and Denon DL-301 III cartridges and a humble Emotiva XPS-1 phono stage. I just bought the MoFi SACD...

    Back-Electret/STAX

The SR-X does indeed have faston connectors, which I cleaned on the "bad" side. Your idea of switching drivers is great. Thanks, Eric. There was a NOS SR-X III driver on eBay just recently; but I did not buy it because mine have a "wee" black component (protection device?) soldered between 2...

I have had a pair of SR-40's since 1975, I think. Always loved them and they were my gold standard. I read an old review that praised the SR-30 as one of Stax's best, so when I saw a pair on the Bay, I snagged them. Unfortunately, the Left channel is pretty weak compared to the right. (Is there...

I need replacement pads for my SR-X Mark 3s and contacted Stax USA. I ordered the pads; but they are backordered. I've Sent them 3 messages through their site since 5/30 and so far no reply. Has anyone else had recent communication with Stax USA?

    Stax SRD-4/SR-40 quick impressions

I just won a pair of SRX MK3 and an SRD-7 on the Bay. Just to be sure I don't do any irreparable harm, Is it ok to plug SR-40s into the SRD-7? Out of curiosity, are you saying that it's safe to plug the SR-40 into a pro driver because the 5th pin is a dummy and that's where the extra voltage is...

Never saw your comparison of the SR-30 and SR-40. I'd be very interested as have owned and loved my SR-40s since the late 70's(More than my new NAD Visio HD50s.) and am thinking of picking up some used SR-30s.
