    Sony MDR-7506

Changing out the stock pads can and will affect the bass, so try that next! There are a lot of choices! I use the Auray Genuine Sheepskin earpads and really like them but I don’t think they are the choice if you want to de-emphasize the bass. Not sure though!

    Schiit Valhalla Tube Rolling thread.

So, now everyone knows who the awesome seller is! LOL! So, Guidostrunk, is there some sign that it will eventually go away--the crackle? Like does it get slightly better with each passing hour? Because the crackle on that one tube pretty much hasn't changed from the start. It's maybe...

    Schiit Valhalla Tube Rolling thread.

I need to burn in my JJ gold pins, but for what it's worth, on initial listen, I actually thought that on the whole they weren't even as good as the stock tubes. But I'm starting to get the feeling that I lucked out somehow on my stock tubes. Now, the Brimar CV4033's on the other hand, those...

Oh good! I wondered if you might be kidding! Lol! Good one! Good idea! I’ll have to try it!

    Schiit Valhalla Tube Rolling thread.

Um, definitely turn this off before sticking pliers inside it! There are some seriously high voltages inside! And not just while it’s plugged in but for awhile afterwards, stored in the caps. Turn off, unplug, wait until white light goes away, and then and only then change tubes or adapters...

    Schiit Valhalla Tube Rolling thread.

Thanks for the quick replies! I have the Pulse phenolic not-made-in-china adapters as well as the socket savers, so hopefully no death grip! But, backing up, I have to say . . . Oh. My. God. Am I loving the Valhalla 2! Just with the stock tubes! I . . . don’t really have words . . . the...

    Schiit Valhalla Tube Rolling thread.

Ok, so, I have a quick question: How would you remove a 12Axx to ECC88 adapter (or socket saver) from the V2 once you’ve installed it?

Time-domain Transient Response Testing of RME ADI-2 DAC FS & Schiit Bifrost Multibit (scope captures)

There is no way to select the sample rate on Bifrost. It automatically determines the sample rate of the incoming signal, and configures itself for the sample rate. And yes, of course, digital filtering must be done in the digital domain! LOL! Um, yeah, how else would it work? I shouldn't...

Time-domain Transient Response Testing of RME ADI-2 DAC FS & Schiit Bifrost Multibit (scope captures)

Hi sajunky! So, regarding the 192ks/s plot, I have not bypassed any DSP. There is no means to do that on the Bifrost, and on the ADI-2, the filter was still set to "SD Sharp" (in the original post). More importantly, I was using a program called "AudioTest" to generate bit-perfect 1kHz square...

Time-domain Transient Response Testing of RME ADI-2 DAC FS & Schiit Bifrost Multibit (scope captures)

I totally understand where you're coming from, and I definitely agree with and sympathize with it, and I promise, yes, I will do controlled, blind tests if / when I get to that point. I'm pretty busy these days, so I don't know when I'll get to that, but I'm listening to the RME with the "Slow"...

Time-domain Transient Response Testing of RME ADI-2 DAC FS & Schiit Bifrost Multibit (scope captures)

Yeah, I get that. I was thinking about it some more and it dawned on me that the only signal that would get through the filtering on the A/D side up near 20khz is a pure sine wave. Even if it were actually a triangle wave, the filters would remove all the higher order harmonics, leaving you...

Time-domain Transient Response Testing of RME ADI-2 DAC FS & Schiit Bifrost Multibit (scope captures)

Excellent, excellent information! Thank you all! Yes, I will do listening tests at some point! And yes, I will get some scope captures of the RME with the various filters! I should obviously have read the whole manual before now—then I would have seen the discussion about filters and impulse...

Time-domain Transient Response Testing of RME ADI-2 DAC FS & Schiit Bifrost Multibit (scope captures)

Great info! Thanks so much for the post and scope shots! So RME offers SD sharp (short delay, sharp), sharp, SD soft, soft, and NOS. Would any of those have linear phase? And what DAC created the output shown above? (That you used Roon’s DSP upsampling on) And what other DAC’s besides...

Time-domain Transient Response Testing of RME ADI-2 DAC FS & Schiit Bifrost Multibit (scope captures)

It was much more about seeing if I could find measurements to corroborate what I was hearing, and not really so much about distrusting my ears. And about seeing what was going on with Schiit’s time and frequency domain optimized filter / interpolation.

Apogee Groove Dac / Headphone Amp

Inputs on something like a stereo receiver or PA system have very high impedance--typically 10kOhms--and so require very little driving power, and thus all that matters is the voltage in. Professional line level is 2V and consumer gear is looking for 1V. Since the Groove can put almost 5V into...

OK.  Been auditioning the Apogee Groove for an hour or so now, and the first thing I have to say--which I already knew--is that the headphone out on the new 15" Retina MacBook Pro is really outstanding, given what it is!   I've been switching back and forth between the groove and the rMBP hpo...

I miss my RS2e's. Badly. Sigh. I really wish they hadn't caused me tinnitus problems! I keep thinking maybe I should try again or try the PS500e's maybe. Maybe add some accoustic foam or cloth or something. Such beautiful headphones, the RS2e's! And man were they fun to listen to! --until they...

Apogee Groove Dac / Headphone Amp

I just ordered a Groove today and will recieve it tomorrow evening if all goes as planned. I used to own a JDS C5D which has a battery and worked with my iPhone but I found it to just be too much of a pain. If I'm portable I want to be really portable and my ER-4S's and HD595's sounded plenty...

Meet the HD 598 Special Edition

Maybe this wasn't directed at me but for tge record I A/B'd the 595's and 598's exclusively with my iPhone 5S unamped, since that is the main reason I bought and the main use for my 595's. They are efficient enough and are easy enough to drive that the iPhone can drive them.

Meet the HD 598 Special Edition

I can easily imagine that 150 hrs of burn-in would improve things like spatiousness, soundstage, imaging, tightness, etc. But I do not believe nor has it ever been my experience that the basic frequency response of a headphone changes much, if at all, during burn-in. And this is the problem...

Meet the HD 598 Special Edition

Reading reviews on Amazon, I came across one where the guy got a response from Sennheiser about the 598SE's not authenticating. Short version is that they haven't added it to their authentication page but they assure us all that if it comes from Amazon it is authentic. As for the sound, these...
