Audeze LCD-2C Classic - Impressions Thread

I've seen some good things about swapping to Vegan/Velour pads, but it changes the frequency response a bit.

Massdrop x Alex Cavalli Tube Hybrid Amp (CTH) - Dropping Monday

Bought a CTH recently and have been enjoying it, but considering purchasing a few tubes to try out rolling. Was just looking at the Amperex 6DJ8 ECC88, any other recommendations? It looks like I can pick up a 6C8G and adapter off ebay for pretty cheap which is tempting after the impressions...

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

FWIW, Modi Multibit and Magni 2U is the pairing I've used with the HE400i and like it quite a bit. If you value portability and/or low end I would probably go with the iFi Mico iDSD BL. If you want a desktop setup from which you can upgrade your individual components from in the future I would...

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

I still think the Flat Hybrid HM5 pads work great on the HE400i, switched to them almost immediately and they are extremely comfortable while maintaining very close to the original sound signature. The only downside is needing the rings out of a pair of HiFiMan pads.

I agree, the HE400i is my daily driver. Speed and Detail is just delicious.

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

I mostly listen to House music (not necessarily uplifting) with the 400i and it sounds quite excellent. You can hear very deep into the tracks, and everything is clean, clear, and the attack is superb.   Just give them proper brain-burn-in time. I was a bit disappointed out of the box with...

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

I've been switching back and forth between a THX00 Mahogany and the HE400i.  I really appreciate the HE400i, the sound might be "thin" at first, but I would give it some time and also turn up the volume (maybe turn on high gain?).  I've found the sound to simply be superb for any electronic...

    Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

HM5 Flat Sheepskins are excellent with the THX00, subjectively much better than the HM5 Flat Hybrid pads I was using prior.

Using this test and a bass frequency test album on Spotify I can say that I hear down to 15hz, but 15hz-20hz sounds rolled off in comparison 25hz-30hz.

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

I've been using the HM5 Angled Velour pads on these for a couple of weeks while I used the HM5 Flat Hybrids with the THX00.  Just ordered a pair of HM5 Flat Sheepskins to go on the THX00 and switched the Flat Hybrids back onto my HE400i and gotta say, these are the pads for me.  Bass (sub and...

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

The THX00 is definitely not better controlled by any measure than the HE400i.  I don't know if the speed of the HE400i gives the illusion of accuracy or precision, but it's definitely a very different listening experience.   The THX00 is semi-open, so it still leaks some sound but nearly as...

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

No worries! I'm still learning how to try and describe what I'm hearing, or how something sounds, so I probably wasn't clear enough.   I'm enjoying both headphones a lot, but I'm a little shocked how much more I think I like the HE400i over the THX00.

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

I wouldn't describe it as uncontrolled, it's just a lot less precise in comparison to the HE400i, on the verge of being out of control but never quite losing it's grasp.   If the HE400i is a surgical scalpel in the low end, the THX00 is like a chefs knife.  You can still make cuts, but a...

The Hardest hitting Headphones are.. ( "The EXTREME BASS Club")

I wouldn't describe it as a slam, and I don't think it moves paper.  However, the clarity, accuracy, detail, and fullness of the sound make the low end just incredibly pleasurable to me.  It's just sooo... gorgeous, I really have a hard time describing it.  It's like the extreme opposite of...

I love this album and have been using it to compare the HE400i to the THX00.   Absolutely phenomenal in lossless.

The Hardest hitting Headphones are.. ( "The EXTREME BASS Club")

I never used the stock pads, I bought this set used and they came with th900 pads.   In general though, the HM5 Hybrid pads are an awesome compromise, the perforated pleather interior retains a lot of the bass impact associated with leather pads, the velour is extremely comfy on your head...

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

I had to order a pair of these for the rings: http://store.hifiman.com/index.php/accessories/velour-earpads.html   I contacted hi-fi man support and they informed me that the rings alone could be had, but for the same price, so there's really no point.   Edit: Just noticed they are out of...

The Hardest hitting Headphones are.. ( "The EXTREME BASS Club")

Is the SZ2000 worth the extra money over the SZ1000?  The other option would be waiting a bit for a used TH600 or THX00.   I have a Magni2Uber to make 'em slam (should be plenty of power), just not sure which set I want. :)

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

The slightly less impact is just my personal opinion, I guess the angle velours might have more impact but sounds muddier? Whatever it is, it's just not quite as pleasurable of a thump as I get with the flat Hybrids.   Here's a post where a guy compares a bunch of the pads on the HE560 that...

The Hardest hitting Headphones are.. ( "The EXTREME BASS Club")

Recently went from a K7XX to a HE400i and now I'm strongly considering picking up an SZ2000 based on the recommendation in this thread.   Is there any other great options around ~$200 that have a lot of just fun-listening Bass?

    HIFIMAN HE-400i or AudioQuest Nighthawk

I think these cans are relatively complimentary, so you could justify getting either. I was in the same boat and went with the HE400i, and while I'm still curious about the NightHawk, the 400i has been an awesome experience so far.   Especially after swapping the pads.

Consumer Reports recommends Beats. Legit, nonsense or simply a paid-for ad?

I mean, what were the criteria for the report? Best headphones as driven by your iPhone?  Did they provide any criteria for how or what they were listening to?   If not it sounds like it was a report for the common consumer who can't hear the differences between a pair of headphones for...

    Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

I've had good success with both the HM5 Flat Hybrid pad and their Angled Velour pad.  I would recommend either of these, however, the HFM rings are a tight fit and it's fairly difficult to get extra ones.
