Happy to report that the X1 and NAD HP50s are a good pairing. Welp, that's enough of me for this thread. TTFN.

Huzzah! Just received my X1 in the post today fro EA Audio. So if you're in the UK, you should be getting your X1s soon.   Now just to wait for the uSD card to turn up (hopefully only a few days) and to find somewhere to trial some HP50s and Momentums....

Evening   Will the X1 drive the NAD HP50s well (which are a higher impedance than the Sennheiser Momentums)?   Locksbury

Hi   I was wondering if any of the previewers have had a chance to try the X1 with the NAD HP50s?   I ask, as this could be a potential home/office listening combo for me and I don't want the hassle of an extra amp (I've got an O2 at home for that).   Cheers   Locksbury

    Closed Headphone Suggestions?

$300 NAD Viso HP50s (Cheaper and sound better than momentum, but as durable?) $350 Sennheiser Momentums (Good build quality, but comfortable enough?) $300 Sony MDR-1R (More comfortable than Momentums) $300 Mr Speakers Mad Dogs (too much for office use and hot in summer?) (UK STOCKIST?)

Hehe, it appears EA Audio (UK) is accepting pre-orders. So I think I know where some of next months budget is going.   As for the SD card, I understand Class 6 is sufficient and my question is: Will the X1 support the full 128GB out of the box or is that expected in future firmware upgrades...

Hi   The X1 is looking to be a good upgrade option as the posts roll in and I can't wait till it's released in the UK! James, any idea on a release date?   Anyway, as my old Sony DAP doesn't have enough power to drive the line in on my car stereo and the headphone socket on my phone is...

    Closed Headphone Suggestions?

Heh, realised most of my list were on-the-ear types! Thankfully the foam pads on my Grados means I get away with it, but I strongly suspect the clamping of the HD25s/Momentums/P7 etc... might hurt after a while. Any other suggestions for the bigger closed over-the-ear sorts?

    Closed Headphone Suggestions?

Hello   I'm looking to upgrade to a pair of over-the-ear close backed headphones as my new noisy housemates/people yacking at work are ruining the music and I'd love to hear the opinions of fellow Head-Fiers for recommendations or at least thoughts on my list of potentials.   History: First...

    O2 AMP + ODAC

I took a look at that guide and a few others, but still can't get the ODAC to be set as the main sound card in Linux. Will have to do some more digging. Oh well, at least I can use xmms to listen to my music collection.

    O2 AMP + ODAC

Finally got it complete today! Sounds good on the Mac! Will try running it under Windows 7 later and I suspect I'll have to a little digging to get it to work in Linux.   Otherwise, I couldn't be happier! Pics attach as promised! To fix the ODAC in, I had to resort to bolting it to the bottom...

    O2 AMP + ODAC

Yeah, that's what I did; got the DIY kit shipped from Germany and incurred no further charges.  Hopefully this coming week I can get the ODAC wired up and finally try the whole thing!

    The GRADO SR-60 Impressions Thread

Cheers for the link xylin6, it agrees with most of the stuff I've been reading. I suppose I'd only go for the SR-60i if my present SR-60s broke and I was a bit strapped for cash. Of course getting a good second hand deal on 225is is a good call, although I did spot a pair of Hifiman HE400s...

    The GRADO SR-60 Impressions Thread

What's the difference between the older ones (which I have) and the 'i' version? Would there be much improvement or should I save my pennys and upgrade to the 225is at some later date? Don't get mt wrong, I'm still loving me SR-60s and can't wait to see how they get better when my O2+ODAC...

    O2 AMP + ODAC

Now that my O2+ODAC DIY parts are on order from headnhifi.com, I can't wait to see what new detail in my music I discover with my Grado SR-60s.   In the meantime I have questions:   a) Most of my music collection is sampled at 16/44.1, but I understand DVDs are at 16/48 and I recently got...

    O2 AMP + ODAC

    1) As with any audio amplifier, to save any thump in your speakers/headphones and to save your own ears, especially if you accidentally left music playing and the volume is at full when you turn it on; you should always turn the control to minimum when turning it on or off. (Always was a good...

Muhahahah, just got paid! Now to order that O2+ODAC kit in blue. The X3 can wait.

    O2 AMP + ODAC

Hi   I'm thinking of DIYing my own O2+DAC combo in order to give a audio standard across all my PCs. Being in the UK, it appears Headnhifi have the best prices for the kits, but I was wondering if anyone has ordered stuff from them for delivery in the UK and whether that attracted any extra...

    FiiO X3 mod - AD8397 to AD8620

Well I hope it does, as I'm seriously considering this combo of gear later in the year.   Would I be better off just using the X3 in DAC mode to drive the O2 amp on the desk and do the mod in post 1 of this thread for when I'm on the move or is it worth getting the ODAC as well? (Presently...

    Headphones comfortable with Glasses?

Sorry to hear about your Mad Dogs. I was hoping to upgrade to something like those in a few years time and next I'll have to look at the O2+DAC.   Back on topic... As a fellow glasses wearer, I've enjoyed my Grado SR60s (came with flat pads [no holes]) for the past five years, which are...

    The GRADO SR-60 Impressions Thread

After a year of owning some Sennheiser 515s, I had enough of the moulding inside the ear cup rubbing on my outer ear, not sitting well with my glasses and I was none to happy when the head band broke (never handled them roughly). So into the hifi shop I go looking for the next pair. I sat in the...

Better to get a dedicated headphone amp or use my old NAD amp?

Well, if the Fiio X3 mutates my car into a GTR, then we're talking.   I was never expecting hifi audio from any car hifi and I'll have to keep the car stock for that inevitable day I have to sell it to build up a house deposit.   I suppose my other reason for looking at a higher end DAP was...

Better to get a dedicated headphone amp or use my old NAD amp?

Precisely!   Still, need to think whether the extra £100 of an X3 and SD card is worth it over the 5th Gen Ipod. I mean I'm not expecting hifi quality when I'm in the car and the X3 firmware is far from perfect still.

Will Fiio E07K/E17/E18 work with Sony DAP or Android Phone?

I did come across the JDSLabs stuff first when reading up on the O2/DAC set-ups, but whilst looking for UK resellers, I found a place in Switzerland that sells full DIY kits which are halve the price of the JDS stuff and for an electronic engineer like me, building a kit and saving half the...

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

Cheers Saidear. It may have to come to that, but after having headphone sockets on my prior devices break (ipod touch and my current mobile phone), I'm a little paranoid to break the headphone socket on the X3 if I get one. I was hoping that I could use the headphone and line out sockets for...
