    Headphones with detachable wire?!

AKG K271 MK II have cables that are easy to replace (the HP comes with 2 cables & 2 sets of pads). Isolation is pretty good for when you're travelling. Not sure how well the do without an amp with most portable devices, they sound fine from a HM 601, but that has a more powerful amp than is typical.

I don't want to see a live show ever again.

Over the years I'd got used to the idea that live rock concerts often wouldn't sound that great, but that changed a few years ago when I saw The Who. The volume was too loud (as you'd expect!), but there was no distortion at all and it sounded fantastic. I assumed that they had simply invested...

Portable amp with HIFIMAN players : is it necessary ?

I'm happy with the way the 601 drives both a pair of HD650 and a pair of AH-D2000. I haven't yet compared with a portable amp (I have a Predator) because I'm happy with the way it sounds without one,

    REVIEW: HiFiman HM-601

Quote: All the tags are set either with EAC when the music is ripped (one reason why I keep a Windows PC around) or FOOBAR2000 (running on XP, or on Linux using Wine). I've set up a separate library for the files to go on the 601, some albums are combined into single files (where gapless is...

Is the Hifiman HM-601 worth getting?

Lack of gapless is unfortunate, but if you have the disk space to spare it doesn't take too long to convert separate FLAC files into a single file which will play seamlessly. There is no replaygain support either, so if you want a normalised sound level it will be necessary to adjust the files...

    The best Audiophile MP3 Player?

Lack of gapless on the 601 is a pain on some albums, it's the only reason I put rockbox on my Fuze. I've resorted to using foobar2000 to merge the separate flac tracks into a single file for those albums where the songs should run into each other. Actually all the music destined for the 601 has...

    The best Audiophile MP3 Player?

Quote: low 70s at a fairly low setting (and no I don't think that's an unsafe level, it's what I use for long term listening, exactly because it should be safe with a good margin for error), the device is capable of making them a lot louder. I could have just written that the device is...

    Linux For Music

When I switched to Ubuntu for music playing on an NC10 netbook, the biggest problem was finding a player that would cope with gapless and replaygain for FLAC. After trying many I settled on mpd / gmpc, which works a treat. Rhythmbox was OK as well. I couldn't find anything to rival EAC for...

Looking for comfy closed headphones, budgeting up to $250

The Denon AHD2000s are very comfortable, but provide very little isolation

Picked up the HD 228! (now with REVIEW and PICS!)

I bought a pair of 228s last year prior to going on vacation by train (10+ separate journeys) and in a noisy environment they provide pretty good isolation. However, I prefer the sound and comfort of PX100s (which I can also use lying in bed), so the 228s only get used when I need the isolation...

The most downright depressive song you have ever heard

I've always found this a particularly depressing tune, mainly because it's far too well observed. YouTube - Harry Chapin, Flowers are Red (not sure why but couldn't get the youtube tags to work)

Need a closed headphone reccomendation for a noisy work environment

I have some Denon AHD2000s and they hardly isolate at all. I've just received some Senn HD 228s, these are small supraural phones which I got for portable use, clearly not in the same league sound-wise as AHD2000s (or HD 650s) and well below your price range, but they block a great deal more...

    Shure SRH840 vs Denon AHD2000?

Why do you want closed back? If it's for isolation the Denon's are not for you. The sound is good, but the isolation is minimal.

    The Ramones

As a teenager growing up in the UK in the late '70s, I always thought of the Ramones as "punk for people who didn't really get it"

    MP3 Player 8GB +

The Sandisk Sansa Fuze is available with 8GB, it is cheap, has a long lasting battery, good codec support, an expansion slot and a well regarded sound (my daughter's cheaper, smaller Clip sounds very good and supposedly the Clip & Fuze have identical sound signatures). I have a 16Gb Sony S639F...
