That's a crazy shipping and import charge. In the US with Amazon Prime, it is free one day shipping.

I have ripped over 2000 CD with theses work horses.: https://www.amazon.com/LG-GE24NU40-Super-External-Rewriter/dp/B00C4401UO Highly recommended.

You have reminded me of a must: if your are using a laptop, use a good external drive for ripping.

DBPowerAmp has that and more. I got tired of the DIY Garage Shop setup of EAC everytime I got a new PC. I used EAC for years and notice no sound difference with DBPowerAmp. DBPowerAmp is so much easier to use with no guesswork.

Schiit Freya Impressions and Tube Rolling Thread

Doesn't matter if Tung-Sol or JJ. Current production 6SN7 are average at best. But Schiit needs to offer something if people want a complete product. But they should also offer a tubeless option. Then no complaints. For me, NOS is the way to go.

Here's where I read about the Lansdale tall (Frankie) 7N7 being made by Sylvania: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/schiit-lyr-3-tube-rolling-thread.876016/page-226 But it is the internet.

I should have looked at your list closer. I have read that the Lansdale was made by Sylvania. I have the short Sylvania 7N7. Good tube. This is the first time I have heard of someone buying tubes by the pound. Smart move when you have a tube tester.

Have you ever tried the 6SN7 variants: 6F8G, 6C8G and 7N7?

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

They look very cool, but they better be the best sounding 6SN7 ever at the prices they are selling for. I can buy matched 6F8Gs for much less money.

The New Schiit Audio Yggdrasil Impressions thread (read the first post)

My previous PC to DAC connection was via Eitr with a Neutrik SPDIF to AES transformer adapter. With GEN5 USB, I could not tell a difference between the two, so I use USB since it just involves a cable. My interest was in AOIP, but no more.

Thanks for the advice. You just ruled out AOIP for me. I have every sample rate between 44 and 192 in my library. I must have auto switching. I will be patient and wait for Unison.

The New Schiit Audio Yggdrasil Impressions thread (read the first post)

What is the easiest way to replace my current USB connection with AOIP with an AES connection to my DAC? I don't want to task you with providing every detail, but it is not clear to me what SW and HW is needed. Thanks.

    Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

If you have the latest version with Gen 5 USB; then USB is the simplest and as good as the other inputs. If it isn't, then use a Schiit Eitr (USB to SPDIF).

I agree with Winders. The stock tubes cannot compete with my 6F8G, 6C8G, 7N7 and early 50's 6SN7.

The simplest and easiest way (instant access) to backup your data is to buy multiple external USB hard drives. The prices for 2TB, 4TB and 8TB have dramatically dropped in the last year. I have my >1TB music files on four separate hard drives. One for my stereo, one that travels with me in my...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

There have been a wealth of excellent reissues this month. Along with the White Album Deluxe Box set (ripped Blu-Ray), I have been listening to Hendrix's Axis: Bold As Love (Hybrid CD/SACD) and Electric Ladyland (ripped Blu-Ray). Yesterday, I bought the Stone's Beggar's Banquet from HDTracks...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

On Tuesday I got the Hybrid CD/SACD of Jimi Hendrix's Axis:Bold of Love. I have only ripped the CD layer so far, but it sounds fantastic with a DR 11 versus DR 9 on the 2010 remaster. Today I am getting the deluxe 50th anniversary editions of Hendrix's Electric Ladyland and the Beatle's White...

Schiit Freya Impressions and Tube Rolling Thread

Socket savers are fairly snug to the Freya tube holes on the chassis top, so they also limit lateral movement of the PCB mounted sockets. Assuming a few thousand insertions is 2,500, then it becomes 5,000 because you have to include the removal. I would not want to stress PCB mounted sockets...

Schiit Freya Impressions and Tube Rolling Thread

Use socket savers and then it will not matter. As I have stated before, they also have the benefits of making the removal and insertion of tubes easier and moving the heat farther away from the PCB.

Schiit Freya Impressions and Tube Rolling Thread

I have had my Freya since January 2017 and strongly prefer tube mode. I had Spatial M3 Turbo S (94dB @ 4 ohm) and in 2017 upgraded to M3TM (93dB @ 12 ohm). There hasn't been a noise issue with either speaker. I strain to hear a hum with my ear an inch away from the speakers. A foot away is...
