    HD800 + really big amp + DAC + EQ = head subwoofers?

Anyone tried this? Just for fun I loaded foobar 2000 with an equalizer and dropped everything +20dB that was above 110hz, and then smoothly tapered from 0dB at 55hz and below to 8db at about 70hz and 16db at 110hz.... I've been in cars with subs, this sounds the same, just heads-only. Shakes...

Headroom Micro DAC: My Double Dead on Arrival Review

Hey everyone, I bought a headroom Micro DAC because I'm definitely bound to my computer as a source and really need to upgrade that... but it was dead on arrival, no power. I then stopped by and received a replacement. Again, no power. I'll keep trying to get a working product... will...

Alexander Markov & The Bozeman Symphony

April 3rd, 2004. Today Alexander Markov performed Concerto No. 1 in D major by Paganini. Accompanying him was the Bozeman symphony. This has got to be the best live performance I've ever heard before in terms of the level of virtuosity reached by the soloist. There is no comparison (for...

Reevaluated my opinion of the 96/8 PAD

My system: SOURCE - RME 96/8 PAD, analog out INTERCONNECT - Dimarzio M-path AMP - Headroom Maxed Out Home Reference + stepped attenuator HEADPHONE - HD650 + cardas 10' cable I finally received the Stereophile Editor's Choice CD in the mail after 3 months of waiting. I have heard many of...

    RME 96/8 PAD - whoa....

Finally got this RME thing working. It's playing my music collection right now at 16/44.1, so no special upsampling or anything. This is the way digital sources should be made. This sucker sounds almost as good as the meridians I've heard: lively, dynamic, and very good up top with incredible...

RME Digi 96/8 Pad A Good Choice?

I am considering purchasing this sound card as a reasonable comprimise between my painfully tight college budget and the screaming demands for a better source coming from my HD650/cardas/MOH(R) combo. Good choice? Cheers, Geek

    Question regarding my profile options

Is there any way to squelch or ignore certain members, so as to not see their posts or to block private messages, or both? I seem to be too clumsy to figure out how to do it, if such an option does exist in the first place. Thanks for the help in advance. Cheers, Geek

    Looking for PC Audio solution

I proclaim myself to be a Geek, but I know little about the best sounding PC audio setups. I want the best-sounding setup for my PC that money can buy up to $400 or $500. I already have HD650s, the cardas cable, a maxed out home w/reference modules, and some dimarzio m-path RCA cables as well...

    Post Count

Anyone ever notice that post count is a lot like how time passes in one's life? What I'm trying to say is, the first few posts are like the first years of one's life: it seems an eternity to get past the "newbie" stage, the first five years of life, the first hundred posts on head-fi...

    Bawls Guarana

Anyone ever tried this drink before? I find it quite tasty. It's billed as an energy drink alternative to red bull and the like. It's really sweet: compared to the acrid foul taste of many energy drinks I recommend trying it if you are interested in coffee alternatives. Plus it's a great...

    Good.

After burning in my 650s at mind-blowing volumes for a while, the bass is now tighter than the HD600 bass. Highs are actually about as present as with the HD600s, only they don't sound icy cold and dry in comparison, which is an amazing improvement. These things groove. Cheers, Geek

    HD650s. . . .omfg. . . terr. . .

. . .iffic! Yeah, I probably scared some of you with that lead-in topic. I really like the sound of these. Just got them today, I'm burning them in as we speak. Listened to about 2 minutes of the "Waltz for Debby" SACD and I'm amazed by the sound. I'll post more as time goes on. Not broken...

Wow: Is vinyl the format of the future?

I must state first off that I am a changed man. Up until last sunday, I was a big advocate of CD and SACD, and I remained happy with digital formats. A powerful force shattered my long-held beliefs about formats: I paid a visit to Todd Green's place. As many of you know, he operates a new...

I've decided to start living life (SACD!!)

In other words, I'm ordering a boatload of SACDs per the excellent recommendations on head-fi and my personal tastes. On my list so far: 1. Bill Evans: Waltz for Debby SACD 2. John Coltrane: Blue Train SACD 3. Ars Antiqua Austria - Music and Dance from the Viennese Court SACD I...

I just cleaned out my checking account.

This is the worst kind of addiction. I just made the plunge for HD650s. When they arrive, I'll try my best to post a detailed review and directly compare them with the HD600. The associated equipment will be a cardas HD600 cable, the maxed out home with reference module and stepped...

    Is this bad?

I took apart my sennheiser HD600s today, and noticed something really odd; chilling, in fact. The left headphone driver has a pale black band marked right over the driver itself with a tiny number "19" PUNCHED into the driver! It's actually indented into the driver. Is this bad? Did I...

    Auditioning the Meridian 507.24

I am spending four days auditioning the Meridian 507.24 player; it's the one that HeadRoom uses to A/B headphones on (I borrowed it from them for the weekend). I will refrain from posting any significant commentary for at least a day, as I am using also a brand-new cardas HD600 cable which...

    w00t - MOH(R)

I just got the maxed out home with a reference module and a stepped attenuator. I will do a review later today or tomorrow perhaps. My initial impressions are that this amp is much faster than the airhead, tighter, more controlled, focused, etc. Transient response is literally sky high...

    Cardas HD600 cable length question

Would there be any noticeable loss in signal quality when using a 20ft. cardas cable for HD600 instead of the shorter 10ft. length? Silly question and I'm guessing there's no difference, but I'm considering the longer cable length due to the nature of headphone listening for me (I get up and...

A good source to pair with the MOHR??

Hello, everyone! I am going to be able to get a maxed out home (reference module, dual input) amp for my graduation, as well as some Dimarzio M-Paths (both straight from headroom). Pretty sweet graduation present, although I'm paying for some of it. I'm wondering what kind of source I...

HD-600 veil a function of natural sound or not?

This thread is in relation to the sound of HD-600s compared to my most familiar style of music: baroque solo violin and chamber music, classical concertos and chamber music, romantic symphonies, and the like. I got a chance just a few days ago to play with and then attend a performance by Ron...

    AKG K-1000 vs Sennheiser HD-600

Well, the story goes something like this. My friends and I finished our work early a few days ago, so we just left school for a short trip to headroom. I wanted to show one of them (who was new to the audiophile hobby) sort of what was going on locally. Headroom is quite busy packing stuff up...

I was beginning to think my HD600s were flawed. . .

After endless hours of listening to PDCP or santa cruz sound through the airhead with wall wart and the Sennheiser HD 600 stock cable, I thought something was seriously wrong. With my PDCP, the sound was grainy, midrange was really distant, and the treble. . . had this sort of sticky quality...

HD600 bottom end: Am I nuts?

After about 250+ hours of constant playing of mostly classical, some jazz, some rock, and some techno, the HD600 has turned into a much different headphone. I am specifically talking about the low end, since I really didn't expect significant bottom-end out of open headphones. Boy, was I...
