CanJam NYC 2020 Impressions Thread (February 15-16, 2020)

Booked the hotel for the weekend and was looking forward to trying a few things, but had to leave early due to a home emergency. Tried the Dunu Luna, and perhaps it was because I directly compared it to the Sony IER-Z1R, but it didn’t sound as clear or detailed. Don’t get me wrong it’s decent...

Chord Electronics - Hugo 2 - The Official Thread

Yeah you can't go wrong with the Hugo 2, but I didn't immediately fell in love with it when I first heard it. In fact, I initially thought that the Mojo sounded better. It took some time, and getting better headphones for me to process what the Hugo 2 was doing. For me, it's a greater window in...

Chord Electronics - Hugo 2 - The Official Thread

It depends on the headphones. Sometimes I find the Mojo to be far more engaging than the Hugo 2. Hugo 2 is always technically better than the Mojo, but that doesn't alway quite translate to getting me into the music. It depends, which is why I hate these strong comments of the Hugo 2 destroying...

    SONY IER-Z1R

Can you say more about why it doesn’t sound good with the Mojo, as that would have been my recommendation if you were seeking a tamer treble response. I like the pairing, but wouldn’t mind hearing why you see it differently.

If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

I’m sure they will, but despite the treble roll off on both, there is a sonic attribute of the Mojo, that is congenial to the ER2SE. I actually prefer that pairing than with the Hugo 2.

The ER2SE sounds super good with the mojo. Gives them a natural sound with excellent separation and weight to instruments and bass.

Thanks! I also jumped at this. I remember hearing them at RMAF and was super impressed with what they delivered. Tried comparing them to the ER4SE at the time and to be honest couldn’t quite tell the difference. Upon careful and further listening I think I heard the 4SE as being a tad more...

Chord Electronics - Hugo 2 - The Official Thread

You’re forgetting that perhaps the thread could be shorter with more pertinent information and prove more useful if endless speculation about a different device though, admittedly related, was kept at bay. I certainly read every single page before my first purchase of the Hugo 2, and it was...

Chord Electronics - Hugo 2 - The Official Thread

I really wish you folks will just start a 2Go speculation thread and pollute that one with ostensible timelines and prices and leave this one to people interested in hearing about the Hugo 2.

I like the Trio, and much preferred it to the rest of the 64 Audio line up, including the Forte. It was going to be my choice until I heard the Z1R. Should be fun to have both!

    SONY IER-Z1R

Definitely agree with the sentiments above. Listening to these I don't feel like I need to be overly critical. It's got the technicalities locked down as though that's a given, It presents them as woven into the fabric of the music and not in contrast to it. A good example for me is clarity...

I'd say be careful with the foam mod. Certainly it increases the treble, but one of the ramifications of this, that is not quite mentioned is that the bass weight is reduced significantly. I don't think it sounds right that way. Imagine the voluptuous sound scape with a very tiny and plasticky...

That light comes off when the device is fully charged. When you’re using the mojo without charging it simultaneously the the light color can estimate percentage of juice left.

MACKIE MC 250: These budget headphones will give you a reality check!

Yep these are really awesome. A steal at the price for sure. Many times I take them over the Sennheiser HD 6XX. Both great in their own way.

    SONY IER-Z1R

The IER-Z1R sounding like a Grado was a weird comparison to me too. I find it fair if someone says the lower mids are recessed, or the bass is elevated. I can see where someone is coming from if those are the critiques, but emphasized upper mids and limp bass is just off in my opinion especially...

    SONY IER-Z1R

These sound truly fantastic with the Mojo. I don’t know how it compares to the so called top tier DAPs, but relative to phone and dongle I get substantial improvement. The Mojo pairing has a sense of refinement, timing and attack and decay of instruments and vocals that is quite sublime to me...

Yeah it's a great resource. The Chesky Ultimate Demonstration Discs are good too!

I can use the track that just came on to describe my understanding of this: Dirty Diana - Michael Jackson. The dynamic range has to do with how well loud and soft sounds are produced simultaneously. Some IEMs in an effort to sound bold increase the macro-dynamics. Everything sounds loud and...

    SONY IER-Z1R

Yes, and it makes sense to me for three, though probably four reasons why that is the case. 1. The IER-Z1R to my ears has a preference for sub-bass rather than mid-bass. Lower frequencies are more felt than heard, so bass is likely to get drowned out. 2. Some have described these IEMs as V...

    SONY IER-Z1R

For me, the isolation is very good, but paradoxically the experience is vastly different especially when am sitting down at a dark quite place relative to other IEMs I’ve used with less noise attenuation. I couldn’t quite listen to them on a flight despite the perceived decent noise isolation.

    SONY IER-Z1R

I think you may have a point, but is the insinuation here being that you are the only one ostensibly telling the truth on these IEMs? If so, I find it hard to understand whether your are satisfied or dissatisfied with the IER-Z1R due to the capricious nature of your posts. In many many ways I...

    SONY IER-Z1R

That's interesting. My experience very much concurs with yours above with the exception of bright. I suppose it's all relative, but compared to say a Hugo 2, or ifi micro black label, the Mojo's treble is quite reticent.

    SONY IER-Z1R

I sold the Hugo 2, to fund the IER-Z1Rs, and kept the Mojo. I’m curious how the Hugo 2 pairs with them, but it’s a marked increase in sound quality from the iPhone X and dongIe to the Mojo. Still early, but I like what am hearing so far with the Mojo, and the IER-Z1Rs.

Just received mine from stereo.com.sg. Gotta vouch for those folks as ordered on their Sunday and they shipped it the next day. Item got to Denver before mid day on Wednesday which is insane. I opted for DHL 12:00, since am leaving here on the weekend. Those guys were communicative, flexible...
