    The 6SN7 Identification Guide

Just received 4 of these General Electric Canada 6SN7GT, any insight onto their history, what the gray collar may be for and date? Has date code H3 as far as I can see.

So I just picked these up locally for the astonishing price of $9 AUD per tube. Very detailed but still smooth presentation, and one of the most unique midrange presentations I've heard. Treble is strong, pairs great with HD800 on classical music(incredible soundstage), though some hi-hats did...

For 6AS7G tube rollers here .....

Is anyone with both the cetron 7236 and the tung sol 7236 metal bases able to hear a difference between them? My cetron 7236s have to be the least 'tubey' sounding tubes in the whole 6as7 family. If anyone is out looking for bendix graphite plates, look out for raytheon 6080WC or tung sol...

New crack owner who just installed the speedball tonight! Still trawling through the 686 pages on this thread but wanted to drop my first impressions on the stock circuit and speedball. I'm sure many more detailed and better descriptions are scattered through the thread but since it's so long I...

Haven't rolled the 5998 and 7236 in a long time as I've spent the majority of time with TS 6080, which I think is on par with the GEC 6AS7G for top 3 tubes in the family. Give me a couple of days to familiarise myself again and I will get back to you :) From memory however, 5998 is likely to...

that is the same seller i bought from. hope burning in is helping, mine definitely did sputter quite a lot (and at random) in the first few hours of use

For 6AS7G tube rollers here .....

I'd describe it as just a more distant, quieter sound, did not actually get any scratch. They did take a few hours of use to settle in (occassionally would sputter a bit at the start) so might be that. Otherwise I think you might have a bad tube :/ if you're on the lf339 try checking with one...

    Popular Classical Music

I've been a big fan of classical music my whole life. I've really enjoyed the eye opening experience of hifi on large scale orchestral works specifically. I run HD800 and STAX l300 LTD for the detailed imaging, clarity and soundstage. Here's 3 of my favourite symphonic recordings; Mravinsky...

For 6AS7G tube rollers here .....

Thanks for the heads up, it took a considerable amount of force but I managed to get the tubes to sit flush with the connectors and it made a huge difference to the sound. I will amend my previous impressions; these are now slightly more musical and less analytical than the 6AS7G, with...

    La Figaro 339

As has been mentioned on the 6as7 tube rolling thread, 2x CV4079/A2293 can be rolled into the power tube slot with adapters (available on ebay). I had some initial connection issues since i couldn't get the tubes to sit properly/deep enough but with some considerable force they are now in nice...

    La Figaro 339

looks very similar in construction to the tung-sol mesh 6SJ7GT which is incredibly difficult to find for a reasonable price. I'd describe the 6SJ7GT tone slightly smoother, darker and less analytical than the RCA 5693 reds which seems to contradict your impressions of the 6SD7GT. Any chance...

i have a pair with white and a pair with black writing. Can't hear any difference, both extremely linear sounding tubes; i wrote about a few combinations a few pages back, 7236 was one of them (trying to find time to sit down and analyse more combos). Struggling to find red label ones, only seen...

Chatham 6080WA arrived today. These sound incredible, to my ears they rival the gec 6as7gs; better musicality and tone, while still maintaining excellent separation/imaging and microdetail. It only falls behind the gec's in that it tends to sound a little harsh at times; not sibilant but more...

Tung Sol 7236 + RCA 5693 this is a superb combination. Pics first; I now understand why people call this 'solid state sounding'. It is very analytical, and extremely linear. The amp's inherent sound sig and musicality combine with this combination's highly analytical timbre to provide a...

I ordered a quad, as well as a quad of TS 7236, from Dale at vacuumtubes.net; email them about it as their web stock listings are months old. Their pricing is not bad, off the top of my head it was 15$ each for the RCA reds and under 50$ for the 7236. They had plenty in stock as I was offered a...

I think the RCA could go either way with the bass; it’ll either make it more accurate or it could emphasise it. Let us know how it goes!

Noted. I will power it on again when I get home tonight for a few hours, and see if the smell persists. If it does I’ll open it up again and check the circuitry closely. No problem at all, many more combinations to test as it’s still my first week with the amp! Which power tubes are you using...
