Just saw this and not sure if a new DAC is still of interest. Anyway, I’ve had the Qutest and auditioned the Frerot. My suggestion is actually the Mojo 2 in desktop mode. It’s very, very hard to beat for a reasonable amount of money (especially if you EQ).

I totally get that! Have you compared local files or CD’s to streaming? One thing I noticed as my network setup improved was that it was easier to ”keep time” (as in happily tap your feet!) even when streaming. Songs like Peter Gabriel’s ”Red Rain” or Los Lobos ”Be Still” are great songs to use...
