All in one DAC Amp for up to $1500
I currently have a fantastic vinyl/tube based system to use my headphones with. My headphones in order of most use are HE1000 V2 Stealth, HD6xx, and HD580 original. Now, I’m looking for a desktop DAC amp all in one that I can use for playing music from the likes of Qobuz, etc. I’m not...- golgi

Topping D90
I thought the D90 was great from first plugging it in. But I do think the sound opens up significantly after around 150+ hours. FYI for anyone evaluating this device.- golgi

Schiit Freya Impressions and Tube Rolling Thread
Well, I ordered NOS matched quad GE 6SN7GTB tubes and received them today. They're a little smaller than the stock JJ tubes but wow do they improve the sound. There is definitely more clarity, dynamics, and because of the clarity, you can hear into the soundstage better. A great improvement...- golgi

Schiit Freya Impressions and Tube Rolling Thread
I've read about the first 60 or so pages of this thread to determine what might be the best tubes to get for my Freya +. I got it a few weeks ago and am liking the sound overall. It seems that either the GE 6SN7GTB or RCA 5692's would be ideal upgrades from stock JJ tubes. I have still have...- golgi

This is one of my favorite album finds this year! I just received the 45rpm vinyl today and it is glorious! -
Rotel - The underdog?
I have had Rotel components in my main speaker system for around 18 years now and they have been very reliable. In my system which utilizes Magnepan speakers, I've tried three different amps. The Magnepan speakers are very revealing of equipment so it's easy to hear differences clearly. ...- golgi

Best Sounding Recorded Drums.
One of my best is Ecstacy in Number live at the HE2003 (Stereophile) show. I highly recommend tracking down this recording. -
[Review] Superlux HD681 EVO
Ah ok, thanks for the clarification. I have a very early LD Mk3. I ordered mine right after they were released. Even with the Senn 580's I've found that certain types of tubes cause some hum. In my case, the short Voskhod tubes cause hum. I've tried 3 different sets of those tubes with the same...- golgi

[Review] Superlux HD681 EVO
I use my 681 Evo's during the day hooked up directly to my computer. But I have tried them hooked up to my LD MK3 at home. When I did so, I thought I perceived a slight improvement in sound but I wasn't absolutely sure. I typically use my LD MK3 with my Sennheiser HD580's. So when I'm around...- golgi

[Review] Superlux HD681 EVO
Yep, I still use mine every day. The sound in the right side sometimes cuts out. But if I readjust, the sound comes back. A little annoying but they've been great otherwise.- golgi

[Review] Superlux HD681 EVO
My Evo's have developed an intermittent issue. The sound on the right side goes out sometimes. But if I twist them a little, the sound comes back. I think I may open them up and redo the wiring over the weekend. Has anyone else done this? Was it fairly straightforward? Do you have pics?- golgi

best headphone for 90$
You should add a Superlux to your list. They cost much less than $90 but will compete with headphones in that price range. http://www.head-fi.org/products/superlux-hd-681-evo-black-professional-monitor-headphones- golgi

[Review] Superlux HD681 EVO
I found when I had just broken them in for around 200 hours, there was some sibilance with female vocals. But that has settled down now over time.- golgi

[Review] Superlux HD681 EVO
One more thing, I found that burn-in hours with pink noise are more effective than just playing music. That's with burn-in on any piece of gear.- golgi
