Hey dudes, I'm in Halifax for a couple days. Anything I should pick up to bring home? Or anything I should check out while I'm here?- Armaegis

Lol, I got four of those and haven't even taken them out of the packaging yet. Then again, my office is still a disaster of moving boxes.- Armaegis

Fuzzy memory says... 6-7 ish years old? I got it refurbed a couple years ago as an off-lease machine. I don't remember the model, but it was this form factor: https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/p/desktops/thinkcentre/m-series-tiny/thinkcentre-m910q/11tc1mt910q- Armaegis

I've had Lenovo mini PCs before that worked just fine. Come to think of it I might even have an old one lying around at my parent's place no longer being used if you're interested.- Armaegis

Violectric DHA V590 DAC/AMP - Blue Velvet
Unfortunately I haven't heard the V590 v2, so can't offer any thoughts there at all. In the past I've heard a couple of the older Violectrics (sorry I don't remember which ones) and from my fuzzy memory they all share a similar sound, so again my stance would be unless you really really love the...- Armaegis

Violectric DHA V590 DAC/AMP - Blue Velvet
I haven't heard the V222, but I have heard the V281, used to own the BHA-1 (both high and low gain versions), and currently still have the SPL Phonitor 2. I also used to have the Phonitor X with built in dac which I thought was a tiny bit better than the 2 but not enough to justify keeping it at...- Armaegis

HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone
I have an EP 4-screw, but I've modded it into darkish territory mostly with damping material under the pads. A combination of felt and twaron "angel hair" fibres.- Armaegis

I haven't listened to them myself, but my wife thinks they are ok. They are lighter, but not as comfortable since they sit on ear as opposed to over ear. They isolate very well though, enough so that she thought they were noise cancelling at first.- Armaegis

If you pass by, please pick one up for me. I need to get some new bluetooth headphones for my wife. She keeps breaking hers (they get banged around in her bag since she never uses a case, wears them at the gym, etc).- Armaegis

Maybe the V-Moda 80? I used to have the predecessors which were wired, but I thought they were quite good. https://www.amazon.ca/s?k=v-moda+80&crid=1G94DD2THLEAC&sprefix=v-moda+80%2Caps%2C106&ref=nb_sb_noss I have zero experience with this one, but it looks like they are trying to bank on the...- Armaegis

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
Speaker amps may also have more DC offset than headphone amps. A big driver that can handle tens or hundreds of watts doesn't care, but headphone drivers are far less tolerant.- Armaegis

My dad worked at Navcanada years ago (back when it was called Transport Canada) back in the 90's. He wasn't an ATC, he ran the cafeteria, but he was there for over a decade and got to know a lot of the guys very well. He did note that there was quite a bit of turnover in his time and cited that...- Armaegis

Wow @SennheiserMiser it's been a long time. Hope you've been keeping well! I think I'm the only person still active here who would remember you. I'm not a mac person... but couldn't an old iphone do most of what you're looking for? As for the Fostex purpleheart... paging @Viper2005, years ago...- Armaegis

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
An L-pad is just a couple resistors both in series and parallel with the load (either the speaker or the headphone). They are used to trim down the amount of voltage seen by the load and thus reduce volume. Just a resistor in series will work to reduce it (the mechanism is called a voltage...- Armaegis

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
Ok so I found this image online... https://www.audioservicemanuals.com/s/Scott/Scott-299D/Scott-299D-Schematic-1.jpg So it appears that it is a tube amp w/transformer coupled output with different taps for 4/8/16 ohms speakers. Do you have the manual? Does it say anything about ensuring there...- Armaegis

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
In general, if you have the proper adapter cable to go from binding post to balanced headphone jack, you should be fine as long as you are careful with the volume pot. There are typically two scenarios to be wary of: 1) too much gain/noise, in which case a series resistor on the outputs is...- Armaegis
