I think that there are almost no available DAPs or DAC/AMPs on the market with only analogue volume adjustment knob. There are only few with hybrid volume adjustment technology like "DX320MAX" or "DC Elite" so I see no problem in this case.

It won't have "Desktop Mode" like FiiO M23, at least there won't be "increased power output option" to headphones when connected to wall charger or DC and it will not bypass the battery power. I think technicaly DX180 is very similar to DX160/170 except that it has "replaceable battery" option...
