SONY IER-Z1R
I did. It was good, quite full sounding for a silver cable with a smooth sound. I like Lavri quality, and very good value for what you get. Edit: I think it was the Ultimate V3 that I tried with Z1R. But the Grand will of course be better.- gLer

SONY IER-Z1R
Thanks...yeah I had the cable already (on another IEM), so took the leap. I didn't realise I could get it tailor made for Z1R. Now these two are married for life.- gLer

SONY IER-Z1R
Gents, I did a thing. Something I didn't think I would ever do. I 'upgraded' Z1R from the stock cable! I sent in my original PW Audio 1950s cable to update it from the old hex to the new black hardware. On a whim, I asked Peter if he had matching black metal Z1R connectors, and as luck would...- gLer

Yes either LPGT or R8 II. Ask @Deezel177, he recently upgraded from LPGT to R8 II.- gLer

Are you listening to MQA or DSD by any chance? Neither will be affected by PEQ. Also, make sure you have no plugins or MSEB active.- gLer

If you're hearing the gaps on different sources it's most likely the files. Could be the ripping inserted a tiny pause between tracks. Best way to check is to play the same album from, say, Tidal, and see if the same gaps exist there. If not, it's your files.- gLer

Like others have said, it could be a littany of things. Z1R can be full sounding with the right source and music, but I can also sound thinner relative to fuller IEMs. I suspect your experience is a fit issue, because bright and thin with a smaller stage and (by the sounds of it) not enough bass...- gLer

Calling @Deezel177 to explain the basics of audio playback from a recording of a 3D space (or mastering to simulate a 3D space). And to answer your question above, no IEM can reproduce something that is not in a recording. But every IEM reproduces what is in the recording is slightly (or...- gLer

I'm not so sure I'd characterise IEM stage in terms of metres. Width maybe, with a vivid imagination, depth possibly, height never. A few cm at best when it comes to height, unless you're smoking some really good s*** 🤭- gLer

It's all open to discussion/interpretation. Unlike tonality, I'm not sure one can actually measure stage size. But I do agree that based on a sizeable enough sample, we should be able to distinguish between IEMs that sound wider/taller/deeper (given similar chains/music).- gLer

IEM 'stage' is all psychoacoustic anyway. The sound is literally firing from a cylinder inside your ears to your eardrums, travelling all of 5-10mm 🤷🏻- gLer

You should hook an IER-Z1R to the DMP if you want to be transported into another universe... Those two were literally made for each other.- gLer

It's all psychoacoustic. Some IEMs user driver positioning to simulate a soundfield, others use sonic chambers, reflections, driver dampening...then there's tips, cables and sources that affect the effect in different ways. But it all comes down to how our brains perceive what we're hearing...- gLer

Like some of the others said, absolutely. That's why you need 5 different IEMs and a 30,000-track library to shake things up when the going gets tough! 😅 Seriously though, sometimes no matter what you do you're just not in the mood for music and/or IEM music. Go make some coffee, take a walk...- gLer

Thanks for the shout out, and beautiful pair of N8s you have there! I never heard the demo, but if you want to brighten them up a touch switch to M15 (that's what I use) or even more, MX (I don't really use this). Also, a more extended cable, like PWA 1950s, really works well. I have the 1950s...- gLer

I agree with the third camp thing, especially since I reacquired the 12t recently and remembered how its combination of almost perfect tuning with top-tier techs won me over first time. That ability to sound utterly realistic while still being fun is very engaging, even with its BA bass (yes...- gLer
