Schiit Mjolnir 3 - Impressions Thread
In my case I would most likely look at the Caldera prior to the VC. Either way I have two other planar headphones on my short list prior to that. AO is my first ZMF, so I am still new to their house sound. I will be playing with pad swapping on the AO for a while. From what others have said...- MindBreak

ZMF Atrium - new open-back co-flagship
I made the decision to try them stock first, and I will start pad swapping later on. Edit: Admittedly with the exception of using a Gravedigger Corpse Cable.- MindBreak

That is just the ting, the box was 100% intact. The other thing is that the rods are bent evenly on both sides. lol- MindBreak

HIFIMAN Arya - Arya Stealth - Arya Organic :: Impressions Thread
The Arya Stealth is very revealing when it comes to bad recordings, so some of those "sibilance" warnings might stem from that. Your chain will also play a huge part in how they ultimately sound to you. If your setup leans towards an uplift in the treble region then that will not help things...- MindBreak

SJY Audio Starry Night Planar Magnetic Headphone
The Jotunheim 2 is sort of the jack of all trades when it comes to hard to drive planar headphones. Is it the best?! No, but it does a really good job getting you closer than most at its price point. Below a $1,000 I don't think that you can get much better.- MindBreak

SJY Audio Starry Night Planar Magnetic Headphone
Interesting that you preferred the ef499 over the ef500, but personal preference is everything in this hobby. Thanks for confirming my suspicions regarding the ef499. I would have been surprised if it didn't drive SN v2 well considering what Hifiman designed that unit to power. Granted that I...- MindBreak

SJY Audio Starry Night Planar Magnetic Headphone
Over on HG, it seems a few people are having to throw a lot of power at the Horizon headphones. Several people are turning to speaker amps for that one. They are finding that is more difficult to drive than the SN v1 and closer to the HE6SE. I won't have a pair until some time next year as I...- MindBreak

SJY Audio Starry Night Planar Magnetic Headphone
Those of us who have tried SN v1 and/or v2 on speaker amps are not saying that you have to use a power amp to make them sound good. The point is more about trying to get the most out of the headphone (particularly in the lower frequencies, but not exclusively). I recently started spending more...- MindBreak
