    Holo Audio May DAC Speculation

hmmmm . . . interesting. i'm convinced cables make a difference and digital sources sound different, but i can't quite align with that . . .

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

so you're using the red as a ddc or are you using tidal connect?

Chord Electronics Qutest DAC - Official Thread

Actually, look again (I downloaded the manual from the web site) - the layout is weird. They went 1v is red, 3v is blue, 2v is green. Who knows why it's not in order.

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

wow -- your temperatures are certainly way different then mine. i can't imagine leaving in the morning and having my house at 36 degrees C when I return -- what's the outside temp? so my data point isn't comparable -- my ambient temp is max of 24 degrees C. do remember that the case is...

just a data point -- i leave my red on 24/7 and it's not even warm to the touch.

    Holo Audio May DAC Speculation

i'm really interested in comparing a holo may dac to my chord dave. is anyone in greater metro boston interested in a "home" and "away" comparison? i'll bring my dave to your place to put into your system, if you'll bring your dave to my place to try in my system. my hqplayer nuc8i7 can...

    Holo Audio Cyan 2 DAC

the cyan 2 was released just seven months ago -- your info about different build options isn't correct. https://www.kitsunehifi.com/product/holo-audio-cyan-2-dac/

    good call!

    Holo Audio May DAC Speculation

you need roon bridge installed on that pc -- that should fix your problem.

    Holo Audio May DAC Speculation

you've got the wrong software on the win10 pc -- you need the right software for it to be treated as a zone. you have to download/install roon bridge. roon remote serves only a control interface. as @genefruit mentions below, did you mis-describe what you've installed where?

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

The loud minority seem to have self inflicted issues, it's not the Red. Not liking or not understanding the capabilities doesn't necessarily mean its a product issue (IMO) . . .
  12. jcn3

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

His issue has nothing to do with the Red. Personally, I've had zero issues - I find it quite easy to use.
  13. jcn3

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

That's a pretty old processor - I think mine uses the same. Basically, your issue sounds like your laptop doesn't have the power to upsample that high. So you have two choices, do the best you can with what you have or get a more powerful computer.

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

i think you're making it too complicated. first thing to understand is that the NAA runs on the red -- no other computer needs to have NAA on it. in my opinion, you should put hqplayer and roon on your powerful pc and just let it run all of the time -- you want qobuz and tidal routed through...

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

it's very easy to set-up the holo audio red in roon -- plug an ethernet cable into the red; open the red web page and select roon (plus a couple of roon options); go into roon and enable the holo audio red. that's all there is to it.

    Holo Audio Spring R2R DAC

With that cpu you should be able to upsample to dsd256. I don't think you'll be able to do dsd512.
  17. jcn3

    Holo Audio Cyan 2 DAC

Net, net on this forum is that the Spring3 is better than the Cyan2. Now whether that's worth 2.5x the price of the Cyan2 is a personal decision.
  18. jcn3

    Holo Audio May DAC Speculation

Upsampling to dsd512 in software (HQPlayer is the best way) and running the May in NOS mode is the way to go.

    Holo Audio Cyan 2 DAC

he was agreeing with you . . . he said apparently daunting (i.e. he meant some may find it daunting).

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

some people use hqplayer as their only software, so they need the volume control. for those that use a volume control on other devices, you should put hqplayer at -3db (or whatever works best in your system).
  21. jcn3

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

so to be clear: * you have roon running on a computer * you have hqplayer desktop running a computer (could be the same one at roon is on) * you have naa selected on the holo audio red * you went into hqplayer, selected the network button, selected the holo red as the output device, and put in...

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

that won't work -- the red operates as a streamer OR a DDC. you just want to run roon on your mac, run roon bridge on the red and use whatever output you want on the red to your dac. there's no better way.
  23. jcn3

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

I'm using USB from the Red to my Dave. I'm running the Red as an NAA and feeding via HQPlayer upsampled to 705k/768k.
  24. jcn3

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

only worry about the usb director settings if you're using the red as a ddc (ethernet should be disconnected). if you're using the red as a streamer, then nothing should be checked in the usb director area.
  25. jcn3

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

if you are using a usb cable, then select the "USB -> . . ." option. if you are using some other output (optical, coax, etc.) then select the red native output option.
