Wouldn't 50 at digital give you way more options as you can fine tune to the upside as well? Not sure whether IF you use digital there's a quality difference depending where at the range you're at. Perhaps you've tried? drftr

What is considered best practise for using volume on iBasso D16? I need my 100 steps but since D16 has both analog and digital volume control what is best SQ-wise? Avoid digital at all? Or if it's done in a great way avoid analog at all? Or use analog for reaching the "normal/regular" volume...

Good thinking! Yes, that would be another option. Will read up and see where / if I can demo it. drftr

Yes that might be it! Will look into comparisons this weekend. Possibly Alex did a write-up as I think he uses or used LPGT as his neutral review DAP. If true then he probably used it for his R8 II review too (assuming he has one but I think I can safely bet my mum on that). drftr

I'd prefer a truly portable option as it will live in my backpack for hopefully 3 or more years on my next trip. Ideally it's as clean and musical sounding as P6k but with more power to keep Onyx' bass in check. If that is possible at all. drftr

Being a PAW6000 owner it makes me wonder whether I should try Onyx with Mjölnir? Perhaps P6k doesn't have enough power to reign in the bass? I wouldn't call mids recessed at all and instead would call it the exact opposite. But yes, when the track has a normal dose of bass in it I find bass...

Suggesting because of the recent releases I liked Ony and Volür best; the latter having better bass quality and the former having dramatically better mids. Quantity in bass is similar though a tad too much for these ears. A tight or uncoloured source does help. drftr

Since you also adore your mids have you demoed Onyx? I think you have but not 100% sure. drftr

Yeah, I hate Volür myself because of this... I had the best results with Final E tips because they were just a bit tighter. It also helps if your ears are not too dry though (which also helps getting a better seal). drftr

I would expect buying an album from any online store or ripping them from CD myself with an app that supports gapless playing would do the trick. Because if it doesn't then I also don't have to "re-rip" them. How do others avoid this issue? Perhaps master ripper @Scubadevils who used to live...

In many / most (all?) recordings I'm getting a tiny tiny gap between 2 tracks on my PAW6000, which is really disturbing for some albums and genres. Do you guys have the same problem? The player is on gapless, and while I have ripped using gapless (through iTunes which could be faulty) my...

My point is it's not the quality of an IEM or a cable that gives you the illusion of height. It's effects and psycho-acoustics. So the main question is how some gear can and some gear can't give you that illusion if it's not something that is in the recording. EDIT: And to spice things up a...

So... Psycho-acoustics, like @gLer mentioned. Tnx for the hard work! Yes, but 99.9% of the music we're listening to is not recorded that way. drftr

How can you when there's no channels for up and down? Like, you can't have stereo if there's no left and right channels. So why doesn't it work for left and right while it does for up and down? To me, without any education on the matter, if there's no channels for up and down, it means mono on a...

Yes, that physicality is mostly because the tweeter is on top. But that doesn't mean that information is in the recording, making the reproduction more wrong than right. It certainly sounds interesting and perhaps it's a pity IEMs can't do that just yet. I have had a number of point and ribbon...
